Christmas in Me
Read together: John 1:14; Galatians 4:4–5; Philippians 2:3–5; Matthew 6:19–21; Galatians 2:20; Colossians 1:27; 1 John 4:9–11; Matthew 5:14–16
Every January the decorations come down and go back into boxes. That is fine for ornaments. But Scripture never intended the good news of Christmas to be packed away with them.
Read John 1:14 and Galatians 4:4–5. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. When the set time had fully come, God sent His Son to redeem us and adopt us as His children. Christmas is not a mood that comes once a year; it is the moment God moved into our world to stay.
Read Philippians 2:3–5 and Matthew 6:19–21. Paul tells us to do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility to value others above ourselves, with the same mindset as Christ Jesus. Jesus warns against storing up treasures on earth, “for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” The season can easily become about what’s in it for me, whose lights are brightest, and whose gifts are biggest. The heart of Christmas runs the other way: Christ gave Himself.
Read Galatians 2:20 and Colossians 1:27. Paul says, “I no longer live, but Christ lives in me,” and calls this the mystery God has revealed: “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” If you belong to Jesus, the reason for Christmas is not only a story you remember—He lives in you. Read 1 John 4:9–11. This is how God showed His love: He sent His one and only Son so that we might live through Him. And since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
Read Matthew 5:14–16. Jesus calls His people the light of the world—not a light for one month, but a city on a hill. This song asks a playful but searching question: what if Christmas was what others saw in us? Let His love shine through you in December, and every day after.
A moment to respond: This week, take down one decoration in your mind before the season even starts: name one way Christmas has become about you, and give it to God. Then choose one act of Christ-like love to do in January, after the lights are put away, and write it on your calendar now. Read Galatians 2:20 each morning this week.
Let's pray: Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to live among us, and for living in all who trust You. Forgive us when Christmas becomes about what we get. Fill us with Your love, and let others see You in us—not just in December, but every day of the year. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that Christmas would be more than a day for you—that the love of Jesus would live in you and shine through you all year long.
