Lyrics

[Verse 1] Excitement and a little disappointment was in the air— Christmas was over—and that never really feels fair As children moved up and down the hall—they came in every size—both big and small. [Verse 2] One was new—and had lost his way— I helped him along—then asked, “What did you get on Christmas Day?” And that’s when I learned—a lesson I wish I didn’t have to know— A lesson I’ve never forgotten—although it happened so long ago. [Spoken] “Well Sir—I didn’t get anything for Christmas—Mom’s been sick—and Dad—well—I’m not sure.” “But that’s ok. For a very long time—Christmas has been—that way.” [Verse 3] Life has a way—of teaching me best. You see—I thought—my life—was like all the rest. I guess I thought—everyone had a home—just like mine— And that—most everything in life—well—it worked out—just fine. But that Christmas—I learned something I should have known— At Christmas—and throughout the year—too many spend Christmas with an empty tree—and all alone. [Chorus] But that’s not how Christmas is supposed to be— And Christmas isn’t just about—what’s under the tree. Christmas is about Jesus and how He came to save you and me— Christmas is all about the Savior of the world—and at Christmas—that’s how He came to be! [Bridge] I’ve no doubt—there are many others like that little boy— Christmas doesn’t come with gifts—doesn’t come with much joy. And who wouldn’t want to make every kid’s dreams come true! But there’s something better—each one of us can do. [Verse 4] And there may be some who could buy every girl and boy a toy— But presents at Christmas—they don’t truly bring—real joy. But if you know Jesus—you have more than enough to share. If you know Jesus—how long has it been—since you showed someone—how much Jesus really does care! [Bridge 2] At Christmas and all throughout the year we have the greatest gift of all— A gift that is needed by everyone—whether big or small. Living inside of you is the Savior of the World— Born on Christmas Day for the salvation of every man and woman—every boy and girl. [Tag] Tell the world about Jesus Tell the world about Jesus—this Christmas. Share the gospel and the greatest gift of all— Share Jesus with the world—no matter how big or great—no matter how big or small! Tell the world about Jesus—the greatest gift of all!

The Greatest Gift of All

Read together: Luke 2:8–11; 2 Corinthians 9:15; Matthew 25:34–40; 1 John 3:16–18; James 1:27; Colossians 1:27; Romans 10:13–15; Mark 16:15

Christmas can hide a lot of pain. For every home with a full tree, there is a child somewhere for whom the season brings no gifts and little joy—because of sickness, absence, poverty, or loneliness. Often we do not notice until someone tells us.

Read Luke 2:8–11 and 2 Corinthians 9:15. The first Christmas announcement went to shepherds—working men on the edges of society—and the angel said the news was “good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” Not just for families with plenty. All the people. The gift God gave that night was His own Son, and Paul can only call Him God’s “indescribable gift.”

Read Matthew 25:34–40. Jesus says that when we feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, clothe the needy, and visit the sick, we are doing it for Him: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me.” Read 1 John 3:16–18 and James 1:27. John says we know what love is because Jesus laid down His life for us, and so if we see a brother or sister in need and have no pity, how can the love of God be in us? “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” James calls caring for the vulnerable in their distress religion that God accepts as pure.

Gifts and kindness matter. But the greatest gift we can give is the one we have already received. Read Colossians 1:27. The mystery God has revealed is “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” If you know Jesus, the Savior of the world lives in you—and that is more than enough to share. Read Romans 10:13–15 and Mark 16:15. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, but how will they call on Him if no one tells them? Jesus sends us into all the world with the good news.

This song begins with a simple question in a school hallway and ends with a charge: tell the world about Jesus, the greatest gift of all. This Christmas, let the love of Christ move us both to meet real needs and to share the good news that never runs out.

A moment to respond: Ask God this week to show you one child or family who is facing an empty Christmas. Do something practical for them—a meal, a gift, a visit, a ride—and do it in Jesus’ name. Then pray for an opportunity to tell one person why Jesus came, and read 1 John 3:16–18 before you go.

Let's pray: Lord Jesus, thank You for being the greatest gift of all. Open our eyes to the children and families who are hurting this Christmas. Give us hearts that love in action and in truth, and give us courage to tell others about You. Let Your love in us reach someone who feels forgotten. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that this Christmas you would share Jesus—the greatest gift of all—through both your kindness and your words.
