Lyrics
The Most Wonderful Time of All
Read together: Psalm 103:1–5; Psalm 90:12; James 4:13–15; 2 Timothy 4:7–8; 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18; Revelation 19:6–9; Revelation 21:3–4
The holiday season has a way of slowing us down. A full table, familiar faces, children’s laughter—and sometimes, an empty chair. Thanksgiving and Christmas remind us both how good God has been and how quickly the years pass.
Read Psalm 103:1–5. David tells his own soul to praise the Lord and “forget not all His benefits”—forgiveness, healing, redemption, love and compassion, good things that satisfy our desires. Gratitude is not a seasonal mood; it is remembering, on purpose, what God has done. Read Psalm 90:12 and James 4:13–15. Moses prays, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom,” and James reminds us that we do not know what tomorrow will bring. Every holiday, every meal, every hug is a gift held in God’s hands.
Some of the people we celebrated with are already gone. Read 2 Timothy 4:7–8. Near the end of his life Paul wrote, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith,” and he looked forward to the crown the Lord will give “to all who have longed for His appearing.” Read 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18. We grieve, but not like those without hope. Because Jesus died and rose again, God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Him, and we will be caught up together and be with the Lord forever. Paul says, “Encourage one another with these words.”
Read Revelation 19:6–9 and 21:3–4. Scripture describes the end of the story as a feast—the wedding supper of the Lamb—with a great multitude shouting, “Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns.” God Himself will dwell with His people. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain.
Our best holiday gatherings are only a foretaste. This song looks ahead to the most wonderful time of all: Heaven’s family gathered at Jesus’ call, with no more goodbyes and never an empty chair—a celebration that never ends.
A moment to respond: Before this year’s holidays, write down five things God has given you this year and thank Him for each one. At your Thanksgiving or Christmas table, read Psalm 103:1–5 aloud. If you are missing someone who knew Jesus, read 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 and thank God for the reunion to come. And if you are not sure you will be at that table, come to Jesus today.
Let's pray: Father, thank You for every season, every meal, and every person You have given us to love. Teach us to number our days and to treasure them. Comfort us when we miss those who have gone home to You, and fill us with the hope of the great gathering to come. Until that day, keep us in Your hands and help us bring others with us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that this holiday season you would treasure every moment God gives—and look forward to the most wonderful time of all, gathered home with Jesus.
