Lyrics

[Verse 1] Around the tree at Christmas—anticipation grows each day, For gifts beneath the branches—and the joy stowed away. Wondering what is hidden—what surprises there might be, Ohhhh—the wonder of a Christmas gift—is beautiful to me. [Verse 2] But there’s a gift far greater—than any beneath a tree, A gift that came from Heaven—God sent His Son for me. Although I’ve never seen the place—I’ll forever be, I know Jesus is waiting there—and that’s enough for me. [Chorus] Ohhhh—what a gift—what a glorious gift, Salvation through my Savior—and the promise that He gives to me. And my faith will turn to sight—and His precious face I’ll see, Ohhhh—that’s what Heaven is to me! [Verse 3] A Christmas gift is opened—and the waiting fades away, The wonder of the moment—may be gone another day. But Jesus is a gift I’m waiting for—and glory will not fade, And I will see my Savior’s face—and see what grace has made. [Verse 4] The greatest gift of Christmas—isn’t wrapped under a tree, He was laid in a manger—God’s own Son for you and me. And the road from Bethlehem—led on to Calvary, Where Jesus gave His life—to give eternal life to me. [Chorus] Ohhhh—what a glorious gift, Salvation through my Savior—and the promise that He gives. One day faith will turn to sight—His precious face I’ll see, Ohhhh—to be with Jesus forever— That’s what Heaven is to me! [Bridge] When my waiting’s over— My faith made sight— I’ll stand before my Savior— In His everlasting light— With wonders all around me— More than mortal eyes can see— But I won’t be looking at the wonders— I’ll be looking at the King! [Final Chorus] Ohhhh—what a gift—what a glorious gift! Salvation through my Savior—and the promise that He gives! And now my faith has turned to sight— His precious face I see! Ohhhh—to be with Jesus forever— That’s what Heaven is to me! [Tag] There’ll be wonders beyond imagining— Glorious sights to see— But the greatest gift of Heaven— Is the One who died for me. Ohhhh—seeing Jesus in Glory— That’s what Heaven is to me.

What a Glorious Gift

Read together: John 3:16; Romans 6:23; Luke 2:7; John 14:1–3; 2 Corinthians 4:16–18; 2 Corinthians 5:7; 1 Corinthians 13:12; 1 John 3:2; Revelation 22:3–5

There is a special kind of joy in waiting for a gift. Children shake the boxes, count the days, and wonder what is inside. And yet, by afternoon on Christmas Day, most of that wonder has already faded.

Read John 3:16 and Romans 6:23. God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son. “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The greatest gift of Christmas was not wrapped under a tree. Read Luke 2:7. He was wrapped in cloths and laid in a manger. And the road from Bethlehem led to Calvary, where Jesus gave His life so that we could receive eternal life.

This gift has a part we have already opened and a part we are still waiting for. Read John 14:1–3. Jesus said, “I am going there to prepare a place for you… I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am.” We have never seen that place, but we know who is waiting there. Read 2 Corinthians 4:16–18 and 5:7. Our troubles are light and momentary compared with an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen—for we live by faith, not by sight.

Read 1 Corinthians 13:12 and 1 John 3:2. Now we see only a reflection, as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. “When Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” Unlike every gift under a tree, this one will never fade.

Read Revelation 22:3–5. In the new creation, God’s servants will serve Him, and “they will see His face.” Heaven will be full of wonders beyond imagining. But this song reminds us what the greatest wonder will be: not the streets or the gates, but the face of the King who died for us.

A moment to respond: This Christmas, set one gift aside to open last, and before you open it, read Romans 6:23 aloud with your family. Talk about the gift that never wears out. Then read John 14:1–3 and thank Jesus by name that He has prepared a place for you. If you have never received God’s gift of eternal life, receive Jesus today.

Let's pray: Father, thank You for the glorious gift of Your Son—laid in a manger, given at Calvary, and risen to prepare a place for us. Keep our eyes on what is unseen and eternal. Until our faith becomes sight, help us live for the day we will see Jesus face to face. In His name, Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would receive God’s glorious gift this Christmas and live with your eyes on the day you will see Jesus face to face.
