Lyrics
Up to Glory
Read together: John 10:27–30; 2 Corinthians 5:1–8; Philippians 1:21–23; 1 Corinthians 15:51–57; 1 John 1:7; Romans 8:31–39
What do you think the moment after your last breath will be like? For many people that question brings fear. For the Christian, Scripture turns it into something astonishing: the moment we finally see the One who has been holding us all along.
Read John 10:27–30. Jesus says His sheep hear His voice and follow Him, and He gives them eternal life. They will never perish, and no one can snatch them out of His hand—or out of the Father’s hand. The hand that holds a believer through life does not let go at death. Our security does not rest on our grip on Him, but on His grip on us.
Read 2 Corinthians 5:1–8. Paul compares our bodies to an earthly tent that will one day be taken down. But God has prepared a building for us, an eternal house in heaven. So we are confident, he says, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. Read Philippians 1:21–23. For Paul, to live is Christ and to die is gain—to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far.
Death is not the last word over our bodies, either. Read 1 Corinthians 15:51–57. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, the dead will be raised imperishable and we will be changed. What is mortal will put on immortality, and death will be swallowed up in victory. The body that was destined to die will be transformed to live forever.
None of this rests on how well we have lived. Read 1 John 1:7 and Romans 8:31–39. The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin, and nothing in all creation—not death, not life, not failure, not sickness, not anything else—can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. This song’s joyful shout stands on that promise: we go up to glory held by the Master’s hand.
A moment to respond: Read John 10:27–30 and Romans 8:38–39 this week. If fear of death has a grip on you, name it honestly in prayer, then thank Jesus by name that no one can snatch you out of His hand. If you are not sure you belong to Him, come to Him today; He gives eternal life to all who hear His voice and follow Him.
Let's pray: Lord Jesus, thank You that our last breath on earth is not the end of our story. Thank You for holding us now and for promising never to let go. Wash us in Your blood, quiet our fear of death, and fix our hope on the day we will be at home with You. Until then, keep us following Your voice. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would live without fear of death, held by the Master’s hand now and forever.
