Lyrics
Until That Day
Read together: Genesis 5:21–24; Hebrews 11:5–6; Colossians 2:6–7; 1 John 2:28; Romans 10:1
One day—it could be today. This song lives with a quiet awareness that our time on earth will end, and it asks a simple question: how do I want to be found when that day comes? The answer is beautiful in its simplicity: Walking with You—walking with You all the way!
There is a short, mysterious story in Genesis that captures this exactly. Read Genesis 5:21–24. In a chapter full of genealogies—"he lived, and he died"—one man stands out. "Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him." No dramatic battles, no recorded sermons. Just a life of walking with God, until one day God took him home. Read Hebrews 11:5–6. The writer says Enoch "was commended as one who pleased God," and adds, "Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him."
That is the life this song longs for. Not a spectacular finish, but a faithful walk. Until that day, I will find a way to praise and pray.
The chorus is honest about the struggle. Help me—to sin and doubt—help me to never ever give way! Walking with God is not effortless. Temptation and doubt pull at us every day. That is why the song is a prayer. We need His help to keep walking.
Read Colossians 2:6–7. "Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." The Christian life begins by receiving Jesus. It continues by walking with Him—day by day, step by step.
Read 1 John 2:28. "And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears we may have confidence and not shrink from Him in shame at His coming." Walking with Jesus now prepares us to meet Him with joy.
The second verse looks to the singer's own funeral. On that day some may gather—some may cry, some may laugh, some even pray. And the singer's wish is simple: that all those I know would simply know my soul will be found safe in Jesus above. There is a holy confidence in that—not arrogance, but trust in the Savior who keeps His people.
Then the verse adds one more longing: My only prayer is that all I know and love will come and join me too. Read Romans 10:1. Paul wrote, "Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is for their salvation." The more we walk with Jesus, the more we long for those we love to walk with Him too.
If you are not yet walking with Jesus, the walk begins with a single step: turning to Him in faith. And if you are, keep walking. One day—maybe today—you will hear Him say, "Come home."
A moment to respond: Read Genesis 5:24 and ask yourself: If my life were summarized in one sentence, would it say I walked with God? Choose one daily habit—prayer, Scripture, worship—to help you walk with Him more closely. Then pray by name for one person you long to see "join you too."
Let's pray: Lord, until that day, help us walk with You. When sin and doubt pull at us, help us never give way. Root us in You and make us overflow with thankfulness. When You call us home, may we be found walking with You. And Lord, draw everyone we know and love to walk with You too, so that we will be together with You forever. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that when your day comes, you would be found the way you hoped—walking with Jesus all the way.
