Lyrics
Call On Jesus
Read together: Romans 10:9–13; Psalm 50:15; James 4:13–15; Hebrews 9:27–28; 2 Corinthians 6:2
Some struggles we see coming. Others arrive without warning. A diagnosis. A layoff. A phone call in the middle of the night. This song begins with a sober truth: struggle and strife are part of every earthly life, and much of it we do not get to choose.
But it also points to the one thing we can do in every circumstance: call on Jesus.
Read Psalm 50:15. "Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor Me." That invitation is astonishingly simple. God does not ask us to have the right words, the right posture, or the right amount of faith. He asks us to call. The chorus captures it: call on Jesus—even when you don't know what to pray. Sometimes the whole prayer is just His name.
The second verse turns more serious. One day we all are appointed to die. That comes from Hebrews 9:27–28: it is appointed for people to die once, and after that to face judgment, but Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. James says it another way. Read James 4:13–15. We make plans for tomorrow, but we do not know what tomorrow will bring. Our life is a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
That is not meant to frighten us into despair. It is meant to wake us up. If life is a vapor compared to eternity, then the most important decision we will ever make is what we do with Jesus. The song's bridge presses this home: Call Jesus today—don't wait another hour. By His grace He can save—only He has the power.
Read Romans 10:9–13. Paul writes that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Then he quotes the prophet Joel: "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Everyone. There is no exception clause for people who have wandered too far or waited too long. The call is open to you.
Paul also wrote, "Now is the time of favor; now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2). Many people intend to deal with eternity someday. But someday is not promised. If you have never trusted Jesus, the song's tag is a prayer you can make your own: I believe for me Your life You gave. Jesus, take now my heart to save.
And if you already belong to Him, keep calling. Calling on Jesus is not only how the Christian life begins; it is how it continues. In every rising and every fall, He is the One who answers.
A moment to respond: Set a reminder on your phone for three times today with one word: "Call." Each time it appears, pause and speak to Jesus about whatever you are facing at that moment—even if all you can say is His name. If you have never called on Him for salvation, read Romans 10:9–13 and do it today.
Let's pray: Jesus, we call on You. You know the struggles we saw coming and the ones that caught us by surprise. Our lives are short, and we cannot make it by our own power. Thank You for giving Your life for us. Save those who are calling on You for the first time today, and teach all of us to call on You every step of the way. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would not wait another hour to call on the One who always answers—because He wants to hear from you.
