Lyrics
So many things down in my soul—I know to be true
Choosing right or wrong—I know what I should do
And Heaven is surely a wonderful place
What could compare to seeing Jesus face to face
But when I think of family and my wife
And all God gave me in this life
All I can think of or say—
Is Heaven’s gonna be a whole lot sweeter—if you join me there some glad day.
[Chorus]
Ohhhh—Heaven’s gonna be
Much more about Jesus than me
Heaven just inside the door
Is gonna be worship and glory galore
There’ll be no sorrow or night
Jesus on His throne forever in sight
And Heaven for certain and sure
Is made of crystal, is clean and pure
And with Jesus there’s nothing to compare
But Heaven’s gonna be a whole lot sweeter—if you’ll join me—up there.
[Verse 2]
The greatest thing I own
Is salvation by God’s only son
Forgiven of all my sins and shame
Cleansed and given a brand new name
And when I think that for me Jesus died
When that gift by my living I denied
I can hardly bear the thought
Of how He suffered and my soul He bought
Then He said a home for me He will prepare
Oh how I long to see Jesus—when I get up there!
[Chorus]
Ohhhh—Heaven’s gonna be
Much more about Jesus than me
Heaven just inside the door
Is gonna be worship and glory galore
There’ll be no sorrow or night
Jesus on His throne forever in sight
And Heaven for certain and sure
Is made of crystal, is clean and pure
And with Jesus there’s nothing to compare
But Heaven’s gonna be a whole lot sweeter—if you’ll join me—up there.
[Bridge]
When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

Heaven’s Gonna Be A Whole Lot Sweeter
Read together: Revelation 22:1–5; 1 John 3:1–3; Romans 10:1, 9–13; Acts 16:29–34
What will make heaven heaven? Many people imagine gold streets, mansions, or a reunion with loved ones. This song gets the order right from the start: Heaven's gonna be much more about Jesus than me. Just inside the door is worship and glory galore.
Read Revelation 22:1–5. John sees the river of the water of life flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. The curse is gone. God's servants will worship Him, and "they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads." There will be no more night, for the Lord God will be their light. The highest joy of heaven is not anything God gives—it is God Himself. Seeing Jesus face to face.
The second verse remembers how that joy was purchased. When I think that for me Jesus died, when that gift by my living I denied—I can hardly bear the thought of how He suffered and my soul He bought. There is honest humility in that line. Many believers can look back on years when they lived as though Jesus' sacrifice did not matter. Yet He bought them anyway. Read 1 John 3:1–3. "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!" And John adds that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. Everyone who has this hope purifies himself. The hope of heaven changes how we live now.
Then the song turns personal, and tender. When I think of family and my wife, and all God gave me in this life… Heaven's gonna be a whole lot sweeter if you join me there some glad day. The singer knows heaven will be glorious no matter what. Nothing could compare to Jesus. Yet his heart aches for the people he loves to be there too.
Paul felt that ache. Read Romans 10:1. "Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is for their salvation." And he went on to explain how anyone can be saved: confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9–13).
Read Acts 16:29–34. A Philippian jailer, trembling, asked Paul and Silas, "What must I do to be saved?" They answered, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household." That night, the jailer and his whole family heard the word of the Lord, believed, and rejoiced. That does not mean one person's faith automatically saves a family. Each person must believe. But it does show that God loves to draw whole households to Himself.
Perhaps you are the one this song is singing to. Someone who loves you is praying you will join them in heaven one day. Their invitation is not pressure. It is love. Jesus has prepared a place, and He invites you to come.
And perhaps you are the one doing the praying. Don't give up. Keep loving, keep praying, and keep speaking of Jesus with gentleness and hope.
The song closes with the joyful refrain of an old hymn: When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!
A moment to respond: Write down the names of family members or friends you long to see in heaven. Pray for each one by name this week. Ask God for one natural opportunity to tell one of them what Jesus means to you. If you have not trusted Jesus yourself, read Romans 10:9–13 and respond to His invitation today.
Let's pray: Lord Jesus, heaven will be glorious because You are there. Thank You for buying our souls with Your suffering, even when we denied You by how we lived. We bring to You the people we love who do not yet know You. Draw them to Yourself. Let us all see Your face together one glad day. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that heaven would be sweeter for you because the people you love are there too—and that you would be there with Jesus.
