Lyrics
He Made A Promise
Does this sound familiar? You're surrounded by people, but you feel completely alone. There is something you have never told anyone because you're afraid of what they would think. Maybe it's a sin you regret, a wound you carry, or a question you cannot bring yourself to ask aloud. You wonder whether God would listen if He knew everything.
Consider the tax collector in Jesus' parable in Luke 18:9–14. He stood at a distance in the temple. He would not even lift his eyes toward heaven. His prayer was painfully simple: “God be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:13, KJV). He had no impressive speech, no record of good deeds to display, and no attempt to make himself look better than he was.
Jesus said that this man went home justified rather than the religious man who congratulated himself. Why? Because mercy is received with humility, not earned by pretending we have no need of it.
Have you ever delayed praying because you thought you needed to clean up your life first? Scripture gives us a better invitation. Romans 10:9–13 directs us to confess Jesus as Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead, and it declares that whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. The promise rests on Christ, not on how polished our words sound.
This does not mean God promises that every painful circumstance will disappear when we pray. It means we may come to Him truthfully. He hears the cry of the repentant heart. And because Jesus died and rose again, forgiveness and reconciliation with God are genuinely offered to those who trust Him.
Would you be willing to try something today? Find a quiet moment. Read Luke 18:9–14 and Romans 10:9–13. Then tell the Lord the truth—the part you keep hidden, the hurt you cannot explain, the sin you need to confess. If you don't know how to begin, borrow the tax collector's prayer. If you need help from a pastor, counselor, or trusted Christian friend, asking for that help is not a failure of faith.
You don't have to perform for Jesus. Come as you are, ready for Him to make you new.
Let's pray. Lord Jesus, for the person who feels too ashamed to call on You, open a door of hope today. Help them trust Your mercy instead of their own goodness. Bring forgiveness, courage, and people who will walk alongside them with grace and truth. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you know you can call on the Savior today. We will be praying for you.
