Lyrics
He Can Take Done And Make It Undone
Have you ever wished you could take back a single sentence? Perhaps you can still picture the face of the person who heard it. Or maybe the regret is larger than words: a decision you made, a promise you broke, years you feel you wasted. The past can seem terribly permanent.
Peter knew something about a moment he could not undo. He had insisted that he would stand with Jesus even if everyone else fell away. Yet before dawn, he denied knowing Him three times. Then the rooster crowed, and Peter went out and wept bitterly (Luke 22:54–62). Imagine hearing your own words of denial while remembering the eyes of the Lord you loved.
Perhaps you recognize that mixture of shame and grief. You know what you did. You cannot pretend it didn't happen. And someone may still be living with its consequences.
Now read John 21:15–19. After His resurrection, Jesus met Peter beside the sea. Three times He asked Peter about his love, and He entrusted Peter with the care of His people. Jesus did not rewrite history as though the denial had never occurred. He restored a fallen disciple and gave him a future of faithful service.
That distinction matters. Forgiveness does not mean that harm was harmless. It does not automatically erase broken trust, legal consequences, or the need to make things right. But the cross means your sin does not have to be the final word over your relationship with God. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins” (1 John 1:9, KJV).
Here's something practical: name the regret honestly before God. Resist the temptation to excuse it or to punish yourself forever. If you hurt someone, consider what a sincere apology and appropriate restitution would look like. If reconciliation is unsafe or impossible, seek wise counsel about the next faithful step. And if you have never trusted Christ, come to Him for the forgiveness you cannot earn.
Would you be willing to believe that Jesus knows the whole story and still invites repentant sinners to come? Peter's tears were real. So was the risen Savior standing before him.
Let's pray. Father, You know the memories that trouble us and the wrongs we cannot undo by our own strength. Give us honest repentance, the humility to repair what we can, and faith to receive the forgiveness Jesus purchased. Where shame has silenced hope, remind us of the risen Christ. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that no one mistakes a painful past for the end of God's invitation. We will be praying for you.
