Lyrics
We Bring You The Glory
Read together: Isaiah 42:8; 1 Peter 4:10–11; 2 Corinthians 4:13–15; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4
Have you ever heard the story? This song opens with a series of questions. Have you seen it in God's Word? Have you felt His mercy? Are you saved by His grace and on your way to glory? If so, the song says, there's much left for you to do.
What is left? Two things: tell the story, and give God the glory.
The second verse calls it the old, old story—the phrase from a beloved nineteenth-century hymn. And then it states the story in its simplest form: There's never been another story… that anyone would ever die on a cross at Calvary. But. He. Died! And He died for me!… But He didn't stay in any grave, so my soul He could save. Read 1 Corinthians 15:3–4. Paul calls this the message "of first importance": Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried, and He was raised on the third day. Everything else in the Christian faith flows from that.
Once we have received that story, the song says, we should tell it. Tell the world what Jesus did for you. Tell everyone you know your story. Read 2 Corinthians 4:13–15. Paul says, "I believed; therefore I have spoken," and explains that as grace spreads to more and more people, it causes thanksgiving to overflow "to the glory of God." Testimony is not self-promotion. It is the way grace spreads, and the way more voices are added to the chorus of praise.
The chorus then turns everything back to God: We bring You the glory… all the glory and praise. Read Isaiah 42:8. "I am the Lord; that is My name! I will not give My glory to another." Glory belongs to God alone. When we tell our stories, the point is never to make ourselves look impressive. It is to make Him look as glorious as He is.
Read 1 Peter 4:10–11. Peter tells believers to use whatever gift they have received to serve others, "so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen." Every act of service, every word spoken in His name, every testimony shared—all of it is meant to bring Him glory.
There is real freedom in that. If our goal is our own glory, we will be anxious about how we come across. If our goal is His glory, we can simply tell the truth about what He has done and trust Him with the results.
The a cappella tag invites us to respond physically: as right now our hands we raise. Worship is not only words. It is a whole-person response to a God who deserves everything.
If you have never heard the old, old story for yourself, here it is: Jesus died for your sins and rose again so you could be forgiven and live with Him forever. Receive it. And if you have, consider who in your life has not yet heard it from you.
A moment to respond: Read 1 Peter 4:10–11. Write down one gift God has given you—hospitality, encouragement, teaching, a listening ear—and one way you can use it this week "so that God may be glorified." Then tell one person a short version of your story with Jesus.
Let's pray: Lord Jesus, thank You for the old, old story—that You died for us and rose again. Thank You that You didn't stay in the grave. We bring You all the glory, because it belongs to You alone. Help us tell our stories in a way that points to You. Use our gifts to serve others, so that in everything You are glorified. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would tell the story of what Jesus has done for you—and bring Him all the glory.
