Lyrics

[Verse1] Oh Lord—is there a way— To turn back the years? Is it possible through my tears— To go back—to another time—another day? [Verse 2] For if that could be— I’d go back—at least to the day— That You saved me—when I opened my heart’s door— And I’d find a way—to worship, praise and live for you more. [Verse 3] But if I had another lifetime to live— It wouldn’t be enough to thank you for how you forgive— Or be enough days— To give you all my praise. [Chorus] Ohhhhh—I could live a hundred years—over and over again— And still never be able to thank You— For saving me—from my sin. Oh that a lifetime would suffice— For all you’ve done—your love and sacrifice— Oh that I had the riches to convey— To You all the glory, honor and praise—All that you deserve—for dying for all and everyone—on that day. [Bridge] But even if—all earthly treasure were mine— Even if I could pay with all the riches that are thine— It would all be as filthy rags in Your sight— It would never outshine—Your glory—and light. [Tag] Sooo—there’s only one thing left to do— Every day—I’ll find a way—to live for and worship you— I’ll stand and lift my voice— I’ll lift my hands in praise—that will be my choice— And then—the best way I can— Every day—I’ll start over—and thank you—again, and again, and again.

Thank You Again And Again

Read together: Luke 17:11–19; Isaiah 64:6; Psalm 145:1–3; Hebrews 13:15

Have you ever wished you could go back in time? Not to undo a mistake, necessarily, but to live a certain season better? This song begins with that longing: Oh Lord, is there a way to turn back the years? And it names exactly where the singer would go: back to the day You saved me, when I opened my heart's door—and I'd find a way to worship, praise, and live for You more.

Many believers know that feeling. Looking back, we see how much time we spent half-hearted, distracted, or ungrateful after Jesus saved us. We wish we had loved Him more sooner.

But the third verse goes further. If I had another lifetime to live, it wouldn't be enough to thank You for how You forgive. The chorus says it even more strongly: I could live a hundred years over and over again and still never be able to thank You for saving me from my sin.

That is not an exaggeration. It is simply the truth about grace. Read Isaiah 64:6. "All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags." The song's bridge picks up that image: Even if all earthly treasure were mine… it would all be as filthy rags in Your sight. We cannot repay God for salvation. If we could, it would not be grace.

So what can we do? The song's tag answers: There's only one thing left to do—every day I'll find a way to live for and worship You. We cannot pay God back, but we can thank Him every day.

Read Luke 17:11–19. Ten men with leprosy called out to Jesus for mercy, and He told them to go show themselves to the priests. As they went, they were healed. But only one—a Samaritan, an outsider—turned back, praising God loudly, and fell at Jesus' feet to thank Him. Jesus asked, "Were not ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?" Then He said to the one, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well." All ten received healing. Only one returned to give thanks—and he received something more: a personal word from Jesus.

Gratitude is not a small thing to God. It is a response He notices and welcomes.

Read Psalm 145:1–3. "I will exalt You, my God the King; I will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You and praise Your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised." Every day. That is the rhythm of this song's ending: Every day I'll start over and thank You again, and again, and again.

Read Hebrews 13:15. "Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess His name." Praise is called a sacrifice because sometimes it costs us something to offer it—on hard days, in seasons of pain. But it is always fitting.

Perhaps you look back with regret at wasted years. Don't let regret become another way of focusing on yourself. Let it turn you toward thanksgiving today. You cannot go back. But you can start over every morning.

And if you have never received the salvation this song is so thankful for, it is a gift you can receive today. Then you, too, will spend a lifetime—and eternity—saying thank You.

A moment to respond: Read Luke 17:11–19. Be the one who returns. Set a reminder each morning this week to begin the day with a simple prayer: "Thank You, Jesus, for saving me." Then name one specific thing you are grateful for that day.

Let's pray: Lord Jesus, we could live a hundred lifetimes and never thank You enough for saving us from our sin. All our riches and righteousness are like filthy rags compared to Your glory. But we will not stay silent. Every day, we will lift our voices and our hands. Every morning, we will start over and thank You again, and again, and again. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would be like the one who returned to give thanks—starting over every day with gratitude for the Savior who made you whole.
