Lyrics

**Verse 1** Some go looking for a Savior— Some go looking for a friend— Some may not look at all—till the very end. Me?—I wasn’t looking for a Savior— For I had found Him so—so long ago— Noooo—what I didn’t know— And what I thought I couldn’t afford— Was to make Jesus—both my Savior and Lord! **Chorus** Ohhhh—when I ran to mercy— Jesus changed me— And when I needed love— Ohhhh—how God poured it out from Heaven above— But after Grace pulled me in— And I had found forgiveness of sin— I thought I had what I needed— Salvation’s call was heeded— But ohhh—there’s so much more— Than when He knocks—and just opening the door— He also came so we could afford— To make Him both—Savior and Lord! **Verse 2** Some say they found Jesus—driving down some highway— Some say they found Him—in the middle of the darkest night—after the very worst day— Some had to knock down walls they had built so high— Some say they found Jesus—just looking up—into His sky! But Jesus found me—sittin in a pew—Hearing about His salvation—was nothing new. And He had knocked at my heart’s door many times before— I’m just so glad—that on that day—He decided to knock—once more! **Verse 3** My friend—have you ever made Jesus your Lord? He bled and died—He paid our every cost— So we can now afford—to make Him both—our Savior and Lord. But some wanna say, “Just think—I wouldn’t be able—to go and do—all the things I want to do—“ “And just think—I could no longer do —anything—anytime—I want to—“ But just think—what if Jesus had said that too? When His Father said—“Go and die for me and you—“ There’d be—no forgiveness given— There’d be—no reason for Heaven— There’d be no Savior—Ohhhhh Lord— And no eternal life for us—through You—to afford! **Tag** Ohhhh Jesus—be my Savior and Lord— For without you Jesus—there’s nothing in this life—or in death—I can afford— No grace— No mercy— No forgiveness of my sin— Right now Jesus—be my Savior and my Lord— In my heart—I invite both of you—in.

Be My Savior And Lord

Read together: Luke 6:46–49; Revelation 3:14–22; Philippians 2:5–11; Matthew 11:28–30; Romans 10:9–10

Some people come to Jesus out of desperation. Others grow up hearing about Him every Sunday. This song is written from the second place: someone who had heard about salvation many times from a church pew, who had found forgiveness, and who later realized there was so much more to following Jesus than opening the door once.

Maybe that sounds familiar. You prayed a prayer years ago. You believe Jesus died for your sins. But if you are honest, He has been more of a safety net than a Master. You want His forgiveness, but you are not sure you want His direction.

Jesus addressed that gap directly. Read Luke 6:46–49. "Why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?" Then He described two builders. Both heard His words. One put them into practice and built on rock. The other heard and did nothing. When the flood came, the difference was obvious.

Scripture does not actually divide Jesus into two offices we accept separately. The confession of saving faith is "Jesus is Lord" (Romans 10:9). To trust Him as Savior is to trust the Lord who saves. But many believers can testify to a later moment—like the one in this song—when they finally stopped holding back parts of their lives and surrendered them to Him.

The image of Jesus knocking comes from Revelation 3:14–22. It is worth noticing that those words were written to a church—to people who thought they were rich and in need of nothing, yet had grown lukewarm. Jesus stood at their door and knocked. He knocks not only to bring outsiders in, but to call comfortable believers back into close fellowship with Him. That is why the song says, I'm just so glad that on that day He decided to knock once more.

The third verse names the fear many of us carry: If He's my Lord, I won't be able to do whatever I want. The song answers with a striking question: What if Jesus had said that too? Read Philippians 2:5–11. Christ Jesus, though He was in the form of God, emptied Himself, took the form of a servant, and became obedient to death—even death on a cross. Our salvation exists because Jesus said yes to the Father's will. Surrender to Him is not the loss of life. It is the path to it.

And His lordship is not harsh. Read Matthew 11:28–30. Jesus invites the weary to take His yoke, because He is gentle and humble in heart, and His yoke is easy and His burden light. The freedom to do "anything, anytime" often turns out to be the heaviest burden of all.

If you have never trusted Jesus at all, start there. Confess your sin, believe that God raised Him from the dead, and call on Him as Lord. And if you have known Him for years but have kept Him at arm's length, today He is knocking again.

A moment to respond: Make a simple list with two columns: areas of your life you have gladly given to Jesus, and areas you have quietly kept for yourself. Pick one item from the second column and surrender it to Him in prayer today. Tell one trusted believer what you are giving Him, so they can encourage you.

Let's pray: Lord Jesus, You bled and died to pay every cost. Thank You for knocking on the door of our hearts again and again. Forgive us for wanting Your forgiveness without Your leadership. Be our Savior and our Lord. Take every part of our lives, and teach us that following You is freedom. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would know Jesus not only as the One who forgives you, but as the Lord worth following with your whole life.
