Lyrics

[Verse 1] Some say—worship is a frame of mind. Others say—worship can only be—of a certain kind. Some only worship while sitting in a pew— Some leave worship—for others to do. [Verse 2] Worship for some—music must be a part Others worship quietly—deep down in their heart. Some only worship—when a different tongue is spoke Others never worship—unless God fixes what is broke But the Lord says: Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. And the Lord says: Worship God, for He is Holy, holy, holy, He is Lord God Almighty, all glory and honor—He does deserve. And as for me and my house: We will enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: and be thankful unto him, and bless his name. Oh the name of Jesus—we will forever proclaim. [Bridge] So worship of the Lord—turns out it’s the same for one and all—the Lord leaves no wondering for what worship is all about Worship isn’t about the language you speak, the music you play—or the words you may shout. Noooo—Jesus only looks for one thing in worship from you and me— How surrendered in our heart to Him—will we all be? [Chorus] So the Lord says: Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. [Tag] Ohhhh Lord—I will worship standing and on bended knee But Lord—would You first—create a clean heart in me— Lord accept my worship whether I stand, sit, clap or sing— My worship isn’t about me—it’s all about You oh Lord—the holy and risen King. And Lord it seems You do not care—if I’m falling down or dancing all around— As long as I worship—You and You alone—right here and everywhere—when I worship—I’m standing—on holy ground.

Worship on Holy Ground

Read together: Matthew 4:8–10; Isaiah 29:13; 2 Samuel 6:12–22; Psalm 100:4

Christians have strong opinions about worship. Some say it must be loud; others say quiet. Some want hymns; others want new songs. Some raise hands; some never would. This song begins by naming the variety: Some say worship is a frame of mind. Others say worship can only be of a certain kind… Some only worship when God fixes what is broke.

Then it turns to what the Lord actually says.

Read Matthew 4:8–10. When Satan offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world if He would bow down and worship him, Jesus answered with Scripture: "Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only." The song quotes that line directly. Worship is first of all about whom we worship, not how. It belongs to God alone.

The song also quotes heaven's worship—holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty—and the psalmist's invitation from Psalm 100:4: "Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and bless His name." And it echoes Joshua's declaration: As for me and my house… Worship is meant to fill our homes and our lives, not just our Sunday mornings.

The bridge gets to the heart of the matter: Worship isn't about the language you speak, the music you play, or the words you may shout. Jesus only looks for one thing in worship from you and me—how surrendered in our heart to Him will we all be?

That is exactly what God said through Isaiah. Read Isaiah 29:13. "These people draw near to Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. Their worship of Me is but rules taught by men." It is possible to have perfect form and no heart. God is not impressed by style. He looks for surrender.

The tag captures freedom in worship: Lord, it seems You do not care if I'm falling down or dancing all around, as long as I worship You and You alone. Read 2 Samuel 6:12–22. When the ark of the covenant was brought to Jerusalem, King David danced before the Lord with all his might. His wife Michal watched from a window and despised him for it. She thought it was undignified. David answered, "I was dancing before the Lord… and I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this." David's worship was wholehearted, not because of the dance itself, but because of the surrender behind it.

That does not mean every worship style is equally wise, or that order in worship doesn't matter—Scripture teaches both freedom and reverence. But it does mean we should be slow to judge other believers' expressions of worship and quick to examine our own hearts.

And the song's tag adds an important prayer: Lord, I will worship standing and on bended knee—but Lord, would You first create a clean heart in me. Real worship begins with a heart made clean by Jesus. That is why when I worship, I'm standing on holy ground—not because the place is special, but because the God we worship is holy and present.

If you have been more concerned with how others worship than with whether your own heart is surrendered, this song is a gentle invitation to look inward.

A moment to respond: Read Isaiah 29:13 and ask: Is my worship coming from my lips or from my heart? This week, worship God somewhere other than church—at home, in your car, on a walk—and focus only on surrendering your heart to Him. Pray Psalm 51:10 first.

Let's pray: Lord, You alone are worthy of worship. Forgive us when we honor You with our lips while our hearts are far away. Forgive us for judging how others worship. Create in us clean hearts. Whether we stand, sit, kneel, clap, sing, or dance, let our worship be wholly surrendered to You. Wherever we worship You, let us know we are on holy ground. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that your worship would be less about style and more about surrender—offered to Jesus alone, with your whole heart.
