Lyrics

[Verse 1] My mind is just a-racing, going to and fro With no destination of where I need to go It's telling me this and that, clouding up my brain With possibilities that make me doubt again Doubt Your mercies, doubt Your grace But my heart is where I'll listen, 'cause Jesus dwells in this place He's with me all the way, Ohhh—He's with me all the way [Chorus] So where do I go when my bubble's been burst open? Where do I go when there's nothing left to hope? When there’s nothing left to do—but fall down on my knees and pray And that's when it all—becomes clear as the day — Nothing I can do, nothing I can say Comes close to what my God—can do today! [Verse 2] So simply put, my posture must be to bow Bow—and just pray and pray and pray somehow Believe and trust in every word I pray For God has said He'll never walk away He'll never leave us, never forsake Cling to this promise for your own soul's sake He'll be there through the storm, He'll be there through the storm [Chorus] So where do I go when my bubble's been burst open? Where do I go when there's nothing left to hope? When there’s nothing left to do but fall down on my knees and pray And that's when it becomes clear as the day — Nothing I can do, nothing I can say Comes close to what my God—can do today [Bridge] So why be angry at the storm, why complain? Right now— we just need to dance, dance in the rain Dance through the doubt and pain We can dance because our Savior came He's our Shepherd, and He knows our name Let Him lead us through this valley low To the green pastures where the still waters flow Amen, amen, amen [Tag] Give thanks, give thanks for the rain For it brings us to our shelter again Give thanks, give thanks for the pain Then go dance—go dance again and again For it drives us to Jesus' name Jesus... our shelter Jesus... our shelter Amen, Amen—and Amen

Dance In The Rain

Read together: Philippians 4:4–8; Hebrews 13:5–6; Psalm 23; 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18; Romans 8:28–29

Does your mind ever race in circles? Thoughts go to and fro, playing out every possible outcome, until you find yourself doubting things you once felt sure of—even God's mercy and grace. This song opens right in the middle of that mental storm, and it may sound uncomfortably familiar.

The singer asks the question many of us ask: Where do I go when my bubble's been burst open? Where do I go when there's nothing left to hope? And the answer comes, not as a clever solution, but as a posture: fall down on my knees and pray.

Read Philippians 4:4–8. Paul tells believers not to be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, to present their requests to God. Then the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Notice what Paul says next: think about whatever is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. A racing mind cannot simply be switched off, but it can be redirected—first to prayer, then to truth.

The song anchors itself in a promise. Read Hebrews 13:5–6. God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." So we can say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid." The singer says cling to this promise for your own soul's sake. When your thoughts are unreliable, God's promises are not.

Then comes the bridge, which gives the song its name: Why be angry at the storm? Why complain? Right now we just need to dance in the rain. We should be careful with this line. The Bible does not ask you to pretend that pain is pleasant or that grief is not real. Jesus wept. The psalmists lament. But there is a difference between honest lament and bitter complaint. Lament brings our pain to God; complaint turns away from Him. The song invites us to choose trust in the middle of the storm—to "dance" not because the rain feels good, but because our Savior came.

Read Psalm 23. The song draws on its imagery: the Shepherd who knows our name, leading us through the valley to green pastures and still waters. The valley is real. So is the Shepherd.

The tag gives thanks even for the rain and pain, for it drives us to Jesus' name. First Thessalonians 5:18 calls us to give thanks in all circumstances—not necessarily for every hardship as though it were good in itself. Yet Romans 8:28–29 assures believers that God works all things together for good, shaping us into the likeness of His Son. Often it is the storm that drives us to shelter. And the shelter, the song reminds us, is Jesus.

If you do not know Him yet, you may be facing the storm without a shelter. He invites you to come to Him today.

A moment to respond: The next time your mind starts racing, stop and kneel—literally, if you can. Read Hebrews 13:5–6 aloud. Then write down three true things from Philippians 4:8 to replace the anxious thoughts. Thank God for one way He has met you in a past storm.

Let's pray: Lord Jesus, You know how quickly our minds race and our hearts doubt. When we have nothing left, teach us to fall on our knees and pray. Thank You that You will never leave us or forsake us. Shepherd us through the valley. Give us the courage to trust You in the rain, and let every storm drive us closer to You. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that the storms of life would drive you to Jesus, your shelter—and that you would find in Him a reason to dance even in the rain.
