Lyrics

[Verse 1] Every day— All along our way We look for ways to learn How our troubles we can discern Some troubles don’t seem to stay Oh but others don’t know how to go away [Verse 2] And those are the kind That put worries on our mind But it occurs to me Worry doesn’t change what will be And everything I try Leaves me in more trouble—by and by So what am I to do Oh Lord—give me something—tried and true [Chorus] And the Lord said, Worship, worship— Worship more than worry—that’s what you should do. Worship, worship—for all my promises to you—they are true! Worship, worship—lift up your hands in the air— Worship, worship the Lord—He really does care. [Verse 3] Worry is such an easy decision to make Worry rushes in—when we don’t know what direction to take. Worry likes take over and in our mind—run the show— Worry just seems the right answer—for anything we don’t know. [Chorus] And the Lord said, Worship, worship— Worship more than worry—that’s what you should do. Worship, worship—for all my promises to you—they are true! Worship, worship—lift up your hands in the air— Worship, worship the Lord—He really does care. [Bridge] So I asked the Lord if I could make sure I knew what was on His mind— “Lord, are you giving me the answer—I’ve never been able to find?” “Lord, are you telling me to worship a little more and worry a little less?” And the Lord said, “Now that right there—is something I can bless!” [Final Chorus] Worship, worship— Worship more than worry—that’s what you should do. Worship, worship—for all my promises to you—they are true! Worship, worship—lift up your hands in the air— Worship, worship the Lord—He really does care. [Tag] Worship, worship—lift up your hands in the air— Worship, worship the Lord—He really does care.

Worship More Than Worry

Read together: Luke 12:22–26; 2 Chronicles 20:18–22; Psalm 34:1–4

Some troubles come and go. Others refuse to leave. They settle in our minds and start running the show. This song describes worry with surprising accuracy: Worry is such an easy decision to make. Worry rushes in when we don't know what direction to take… Worry just seems the right answer for anything we don't know.

And yet, as the second verse admits, worry doesn't change what will be. Read Luke 12:22–26. Jesus told His disciples not to worry about what they would eat or wear. "Consider the ravens: they do not sow or reap, they have no storehouse or barn; yet God feeds them. How much more valuable you are than the birds!" Then He asked, "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? So if you cannot do such a small thing, why do you worry about the rest?" Worry feels productive, but it accomplishes nothing.

So what are we supposed to do instead? The song's answer is simple and surprising: Worship more than worry.

That might sound too simple. But Scripture shows it is powerful. Read 2 Chronicles 20:18–22. A massive army was coming against Judah. King Jehoshaphat was afraid, and he led the people in prayer. God answered that the battle was His. The next morning, Jehoshaphat did something remarkable: he appointed singers to go out in front of the army, praising the Lord and singing, "Give thanks to the Lord, for His loving devotion endures forever." The text says, "The moment they began their shouts and praises, the Lord set ambushes against the men… who had come against Judah, and they were defeated."

Worship did not ignore the threat. It faced the threat with God at the front.

Why does worship help with worry? Because worry fixes our eyes on the problem, and worship fixes our eyes on God. Worry magnifies what might go wrong. Worship magnifies the One who is in control. Read Psalm 34:1–4. David wrote, "I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips… Oh, magnify the Lord with me; let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears." David did not find deliverance from fear by thinking harder about his problems. He found it by seeking the Lord and praising Him.

The chorus ties worship to God's promises: Worship, worship—for all My promises to you, they are true! When we worship, we are rehearsing what is true about God. And truth is the best antidote to the lies worry tells.

The bridge has a smile in it. The singer asks, "Lord, are You telling me to worship a little more and worry a little less?" And the Lord answers, "Now that right there is something I can bless!" God does not shame us for worrying. He invites us into a better way.

This is not a promise that worship will make every problem disappear. But it is a promise that worship will change where we are looking—and the One we look at really does care.

If you are worried today, try this: before you think about the problem again, stop and worship. And if you do not yet know the God who cares, He invites you to come to Him through Jesus.

A moment to respond: The next time worry rushes in this week, stop and name three things that are true about God—His faithfulness, His power, His love. Then sing or say a line of praise, like "Give thanks to the Lord, for His loving devotion endures forever." Read Psalm 34:4 and ask God to deliver you from your fears.

Let's pray: Lord, You know the troubles that won't go away and the worries that keep running through our minds. Worry has never changed anything. Teach us to worship more and worry less. Help us magnify You instead of our problems. Thank You that all Your promises are true and that You really do care. We lift our hands to You. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would trade your worry for worship—and discover that the God you praise is greater than anything you fear.
