Worship and Honor
Read together: Psalm 113:3; Malachi 1:11; John 4:23–24; Romans 5:5; Romans 12:1; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Revelation 4:11; Hebrews 12:28; Psalm 130:3–4; 1 Peter 1:18–19; 1 John 1:7; Ephesians 2:8–9; Philippians 2:9–11; Revelation 5:11–13
Worship is more than a song on Sunday. Scripture calls us to worship the Lord all day long, with all that we are, and it tells us how sinful people can dare to come before a holy God at all.
Read Psalm 113:3 and Malachi 1:11. “From where the sun rises to where it sets, the name of the LORD is praised.” God says, “My name will be great among the nations.” Worship is meant to fill our days from beginning to end. Read John 4:23–24. Jesus said “the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him.” God is not reluctant to receive our worship. He is seeking worshipers. And He is the One who makes worship possible: Read Romans 5:5. “God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.”
Honor is worship lived out. Read Romans 12:1 and 1 Corinthians 10:31. On account of God’s mercy we offer our bodies “as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.” “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.” Read Revelation 4:11. Heaven sings, “Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things.” All creation owes Him honor.
Yet the closer we come to God, the more we see our sin. Read Hebrews 12:28. We are to “worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.” Read Psalm 130:3–4. “If You, O LORD, kept track of iniquities, then who, O Lord, could stand? But with You there is forgiveness.” Our worship is not acceptable because we are good enough. Read 1 Peter 1:18–19 and 1 John 1:7. We were redeemed “with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot,” and “the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” When the Father looks on those who trust in Jesus, He sees the blood of the Lamb.
That is why we come “not of ourselves.” Read Ephesians 2:8–9. “It is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God.” Read Philippians 2:9–11. God “gave Him the name above all names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow.” Read Revelation 5:11–13. One day myriads of angels and every creature will cry, “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing!” The worship we begin here will go on forever.
A moment to respond: Choose one ordinary task tomorrow—your work, a meal, a conversation—and offer it to the Lord as worship (Colossians 3:17). Before you sleep, read Revelation 5:11–13 aloud and thank Jesus by name that His blood makes you welcome before God. If you have never trusted Him, come to Him today; He is the only way to the Father.
Let's pray: Lord, from the rising of the sun to its setting, we give You our worship and our honor. Pour out Your Spirit and Your love on us. We cannot stand before You on our own, but thank You that the precious blood of the Lamb washes us clean. Let everything we do bring honor to Your name, and keep us worshiping You all our days, until we join the song around Your throne. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that every heart would worship and honor the name of Jesus above all, now and forever, washed in the precious blood of the Lamb.
