Lyrics

[Verse 1] The weight of this world—was never meant to be ours to bear— That is why on Jesus—we are told to cast every care— For if we had been designed—to carry every burden—yours and mine— We would have also been made to carry every loss—paying for all their cost— Paying for every sin—by dying on an old—rugged cross. [Chorus] Yes—that’s what Jesus did for me— He kept me off Calvary’s tree— Even if I’d been perfect in every way—Jesus would’ve still paid the price I couldn’t pay. For while I was still a sinner—with no hope for me Jesus the perfect lamb—died for me. [Verse 2] In every struggle that I find— Jesus has me on His mind— If I didn’t need all He came to be— He’d still care for me For not just anyone—but everyone— Jesus paid the cost alone When on Calvary’s tree— Jesus died for you and me. [Verse 3] If Jesus dying for me— Was all that was meant to be— There wouldn’t be a heaven or eternity. But Jesus didn’t come just to die—He rose again— Defeating death and the grave—for eternity in Heaven with Him—to be our gain. [Bridge] The Bible says—Jesus is building a mansion for me— That I’m sure—will be—as nice as can be— But as for me— It’s only Jesus—I want to see— For Jesus is the only one—who died and rose again—for me!! [Final Chorus] Yes—that’s what Jesus did for me— He kept me off Calvary’s tree— Even if I’d been perfect in every way—Jesus would’ve still paid the price I couldn’t pay. For while I was still a sinner—with no hope for me Jesus the perfect lamb—died for me. [Tag] Oh—Jesus—thank you for dying for me— Ohhhh Jesus—You from sin, death and the grave—have set me free— And my Jesus—with all that Heaven is surely going to be— You—the only one who died and rose again for me— Oh my Jesus—You are the One—I want to see!

What Jesus Did For Me

Read together: Psalm 55:22; Galatians 2:20; John 17:24; 1 Corinthians 15:17–20

The weight of this world was never meant to be ours to bear. This song opens with that freeing truth, and then takes it further: if we had been designed to carry every burden, we would have also been made to carry every loss—paying for every sin by dying on an old rugged cross.

That is a striking way to put it. We were not made to carry the full weight of sin and its consequences. We cannot. That is why Jesus did.

Read Psalm 55:22. "Cast your burden upon the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken." God invites us to hand Him what is too heavy for us. And the heaviest burden of all—our sin—He has already carried in Jesus.

The chorus says it personally: That's what Jesus did for me—He kept me off Calvary's tree. Jesus took the place that should have been ours. The chorus adds a line that is worth thinking through: Even if I'd been perfect in every way, Jesus would've still paid the price I couldn't pay. We might understand that as the songwriter's way of saying that no one—not even the best person imaginable—could pay sin's price on their own. Only Jesus could. While I was still a sinner with no hope for me, Jesus, the perfect Lamb, died for me.

Read Galatians 2:20. Paul writes, "I have been crucified with Christ… The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." Notice how personal that is: loved me… gave Himself for me. Paul knew Jesus died for the world. But he also knew Jesus died for him. This song shares that personal wonder.

The second verse adds a tender truth: In every struggle that I find, Jesus has me on His mind. His love was not just a one-time act at the cross. He continues to care for us in every struggle.

The third verse insists on the resurrection: If Jesus dying for me was all that was meant to be, there wouldn't be a heaven or eternity. But Jesus didn't come just to die—He rose again. Read 1 Corinthians 15:17–20. "If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins… But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead." The cross paid the price. The empty tomb guarantees the result.

The bridge has a lovely twist. The Bible says Jesus is building a mansion for me… But as for me, it's only Jesus I want to see. Heaven will be glorious. But the glory of heaven is Jesus Himself. Read John 17:24. On the night before His death, Jesus prayed, "Father, I want those You have given Me to be with Me where I am, that they may see My glory." Jesus wants us to be with Him. And those who love Him want, above all, to see Him.

If you are carrying a weight you were never meant to bear—guilt, shame, fear, grief—bring it to Jesus. He has already carried what you could not.

A moment to respond: Read Psalm 55:22. Write down the heaviest burden you are carrying right now. Then pray it over to the Lord, and tear up or throw away the paper as a sign that you are casting it on Him. Read Galatians 2:20 and thank Jesus that He loved you and gave Himself for you.

Let's pray: Lord Jesus, thank You for carrying the weight we were never meant to bear. Thank You for keeping us off Calvary's tree by going there Yourself. You loved us and gave Yourself for us. Thank You for rising again so that we can live with You forever. Heaven will be wonderful, but most of all, we want to see You. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would lay down every burden at the feet of Jesus—and long, above all, to see the One who did it all for you.
