Lyrics
The Greatest Gift of All
Read together: Luke 2:8–11; 2 Corinthians 9:15; Matthew 25:34–40; 1 John 3:16–18; James 1:27; Colossians 1:27; Romans 10:13–15; Mark 16:15
Christmas can hide a lot of pain. For every home with a full tree, there is a child somewhere for whom the season brings no gifts and little joy—because of sickness, absence, poverty, or loneliness. Often we do not notice until someone tells us.
Read Luke 2:8–11 and 2 Corinthians 9:15. The first Christmas announcement went to shepherds—working men on the edges of society—and the angel said the news was “good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” Not just for families with plenty. All the people. The gift God gave that night was His own Son, and Paul can only call Him God’s “indescribable gift.”
Read Matthew 25:34–40. Jesus says that when we feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, clothe the needy, and visit the sick, we are doing it for Him: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me.” Read 1 John 3:16–18 and James 1:27. John says we know what love is because Jesus laid down His life for us, and so if we see a brother or sister in need and have no pity, how can the love of God be in us? “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” James calls caring for the vulnerable in their distress religion that God accepts as pure.
Gifts and kindness matter. But the greatest gift we can give is the one we have already received. Read Colossians 1:27. The mystery God has revealed is “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” If you know Jesus, the Savior of the world lives in you—and that is more than enough to share. Read Romans 10:13–15 and Mark 16:15. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, but how will they call on Him if no one tells them? Jesus sends us into all the world with the good news.
This song begins with a simple question in a school hallway and ends with a charge: tell the world about Jesus, the greatest gift of all. This Christmas, let the love of Christ move us both to meet real needs and to share the good news that never runs out.
A moment to respond: Ask God this week to show you one child or family who is facing an empty Christmas. Do something practical for them—a meal, a gift, a visit, a ride—and do it in Jesus’ name. Then pray for an opportunity to tell one person why Jesus came, and read 1 John 3:16–18 before you go.
Let's pray: Lord Jesus, thank You for being the greatest gift of all. Open our eyes to the children and families who are hurting this Christmas. Give us hearts that love in action and in truth, and give us courage to tell others about You. Let Your love in us reach someone who feels forgotten. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that this Christmas you would share Jesus—the greatest gift of all—through both your kindness and your words.
