Lyrics
That’s How Jesus Saved Me
Read together: Ephesians 2:1–9; Colossians 1:13–14; 1 Peter 2:9–10; Isaiah 1:18; Titus 3:4–7; Philippians 1:6; Hebrews 12:1–2
If someone asked you how you were saved, what would you say? Many of us tell the story by what happened around it—the church, the preacher, the moment, the tears. But Scripture tells the story from God’s side, and when it does, the hero is never us.
Read Ephesians 2:1–9. Paul begins with the bad news: we were dead in our trespasses and sins. Not sick. Dead. Then come two of the most beautiful words in the Bible: “But God.” Because of His great love, God made us alive with Christ, raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms. It is by grace we have been saved, through faith—not by works, so that no one can boast. Someone who had nothing is given a place at the King’s side.
Read Colossians 1:13–14 and 1 Peter 2:9–10. God has rescued us from the domain of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Peter says God called His people out of darkness into His marvelous light; once we were not a people, but now we are the people of God. Salvation is not a small improvement. It is a rescue and a transfer.
Read Isaiah 1:18 and Titus 3:4–7. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow.” When the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us—not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy, through the washing of new birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. The cleansing is His work from start to finish.
And He does not save us and then leave us. Read Philippians 1:6 and Hebrews 12:1–2. He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion. We run our race with our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. This song’s simple answer—that’s how Jesus saved me—is the whole gospel in a sentence: nothing we could have done, everything He did.
A moment to respond: Write out your own salvation story this week in three short lines: what you were, what Jesus did, and what you are now. Use Ephesians 2:1–9 as your guide, then share it with one person. If you cannot yet write the middle line, come to Jesus today with nothing in your hands. He still reaches down so sinners can stand.
Let's pray: Lord Jesus, thank You for saving us when we had nothing to bring. Thank You for reaching down, lifting us up, washing us white as snow, and bringing us out of darkness into Your light. Keep us close until we finish our race. And let our lives tell, every day, how You saved us. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would know—and be ready to tell—exactly how Jesus saved you: by His grace alone, through His sacrifice and great might.
