Lyrics
No Other Name
Read together: Acts 4:8–14; Jeremiah 2:11–13; Isaiah 55:1–3; Hebrews 12:28–29
Have you ever tried to keep good news a secret? It is nearly impossible. This song says the same thing about Jesus living in a believer: If He lives in you, you can't contain the mighty King of Kings! Faith in Christ produces a fire that can't be locked in.
Then the song asks a challenging question: Even the rocks can cry aloud—are we too stone cold, too still and proud? When Jesus entered Jerusalem, He said that if His followers were silent, the stones would cry out. A believer who never speaks of Jesus is quieter than creation itself.
The chorus declares what the believer cannot keep quiet about: There is no other name. Read Acts 4:8–14. Peter and John had just healed a lame man at the temple. Brought before the same council that condemned Jesus, Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said that the man stood healed by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, "whom you crucified, but whom God raised from the dead." Then he declared, "Salvation exists in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." The council was astonished at their boldness, recognizing that "they had been with Jesus."
That last phrase is worth remembering. The boldness of ordinary believers is often the clearest evidence that they have been with Jesus.
The second half of the chorus contrasts Jesus with the world. Chase the world if you must try—the world will never satisfy. Read Jeremiah 2:11–13. God says His people committed two evils: "They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living water, and they have dug their own cisterns—broken cisterns that cannot hold water." We dig our own wells—money, pleasure, approval, substances—and they crack and leak. Only God is a fountain that never runs dry.
The second verse says it plainly: No pill, no wealth or fame can fill the void or heal the pain like just the mention of His name. We should be careful with that line. Medicine and medical help are good gifts from God, and no one should stop needed treatment. But no medicine can fill the soul's deepest void. Only Jesus can do that.
Read Isaiah 55:1–3. "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you without money, come, buy and eat! … Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?" God's invitation is free, and what He gives satisfies.
The final chorus calls God a holy flame. Read Hebrews 12:28–29. "Let us be thankful and so worship God acceptably, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire." God is not a tame idea. He is holy, and His holiness burns. That is why Jesus is so precious—He is the way a sinner can come near to that holy flame and live.
The bridge adds an important distinction: knowing Jesus not just by name, but as He changes you. Many people know the name of Jesus. Fewer have let Him change them.
And the tag turns outward: Bring the weary, the downtrodden, all who've lost their way—bring them all to Calvary. No one is turned away.
A moment to respond: Read Jeremiah 2:13. Name one "broken cistern" you have been drinking from. Confess it and ask Jesus to be your fountain. Then think of one weary person you can "bring to Calvary" this week—through an invitation, a conversation, or a prayer.
Let's pray: Lord Jesus, there is no other name by which we must be saved. Forgive us for digging broken cisterns and chasing a world that cannot satisfy. Be our fountain of living water. Fill us with a fire we cannot contain, and make us bold like those who had been with You. Help us bring the weary and lost to You, where no one is turned away. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would know Jesus not just by name, but as the One who changes you—and that you could not keep Him to yourself.
