Lyrics
Jesus Is The Mightiest Name
Read together: Ezekiel 37:1–14; Acts 19:11–20; Matthew 24:30–31; 1 Corinthians 15:51–53; John 1:4–5
Few instruments announce something like a trumpet. In Scripture, trumpets called God's people to worship, to battle, and to gather. They sounded at the giving of the law on Mount Sinai and at the fall of Jericho. This song is built around that sound—trumpet solos, trumpet blasts, and a trumpet crying "Holy!" over every land.
It begins in a hopeless place. When night closes in, hope is faint, faith is low… even in the valley of dry bones, You call our hearts to rise. Read Ezekiel 37:1–14. The Lord set Ezekiel in a valley full of bones—very many and very dry. He asked, "Son of man, can these bones live?" Ezekiel answered, "O Lord God, You know." Then God told him to prophesy, and the bones came together, flesh covered them, and breath entered them. God explained that the bones were His people, who said, "Our bones are dried up and our hope is lost." His promise: "I will put My Spirit in you, and you will live."
If your faith feels dry today, that passage is for you. God specializes in bringing life where there was none.
The song declares that at the sound of Jesus' name, shut doors swing wide, every shadow must flee. Read John 1:4–5. "In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." Darkness cannot overcome Jesus.
But we need to understand what it means to call on His name. Read Acts 19:11–20. God did extraordinary things through Paul in Ephesus. Then some traveling exorcists—the sons of Sceva—tried to use "the name of Jesus whom Paul preaches" like a magic formula. The evil spirit answered, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?" and overpowered them. The name of Jesus is mighty, but it is not a spell. Its power belongs to those who truly belong to Him and call on Him in faith. The result in Ephesus? Fear fell on the people, the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified, and many believers burned their old occult books. Real power led to real repentance.
The second verse looks ahead to a great gathering: You are drawing Your scattered ones; all will gather at Your feet. Read Matthew 24:30–31. Jesus said the Son of Man will come on the clouds with power and great glory, and "He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds." First Corinthians 15:51–53 adds that at the last trumpet, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. One day, the trumpet will sound for real, and every believer will be called home.
The second bridge sounds the trumpet over sickness, fear, shame, strongholds, death, and the grave. We can proclaim Jesus' victory over all of them. He has already defeated death and will one day remove every sickness and sorrow. In the meantime, we pray with faith for healing and freedom, trusting His wisdom and timing, and we declare with confidence that Jesus still saves.
A moment to respond: Read Ezekiel 37:1–14. Name one area of your life that feels like dry bones—a relationship, a hope, your faith itself. Ask God to breathe life into it. Then read Matthew 24:31 and thank Jesus that the final trumpet will gather all who are His.
Let's pray: Holy, holy, holy Lord, Jesus is the mightiest name. Breathe life into the dry places of our hearts. Let Your light shine where darkness has settled. Keep us from treating Your name as a formula, and teach us to call on You in true faith. Gather Your scattered ones, and let the trumpet of Your kingdom declare that Jesus still saves. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would know the power of Jesus' name—not as a formula, but as the living Lord who brings dry bones to life.
