Lyrics
Jesus Is The Reason
Read together: Isaiah 9:2, 6; John 1:4–5, 9; Romans 15:13; John 14:27; 1 John 4:9–10; John 9:25; Matthew 1:23; Jeremiah 29:13
Christmas cards are full of three words: hope, peace and love. They are beautiful words. But for many people, December can feel like the darkest month of the year, and a house full of lights does not change what is happening inside.
Read Isaiah 9:2, 6 and John 1:4–5, 9. Isaiah wrote, “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light,” and then he named the Light: a Child born to us, a Son given, the Prince of Peace. John says the true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world, and that “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” Decorations can brighten a room. Only Jesus can light up a heart.
Each of the Christmas words finds its true meaning in Him. Read Romans 15:13. Hope: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.” Read John 14:27. Peace: “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.” Read 1 John 4:9–10. Love: “This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” Hope, peace and love are not seasonal feelings. They are gifts that come with a Person.
Read John 9:25. The man Jesus healed said simply, “One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” Many of us once thought Christmas was mostly about what was under the tree. Then we heard the whole story—the angels, the manger, and the cross—and our eyes were opened. Read Matthew 1:23. His name is Immanuel, “God with us.” He did not come for a day. He came to stay.
Read Jeremiah 29:13. “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” This song ends with an invitation: seek Jesus and you will find hope; find Jesus and you will have peace; and if you are looking for love, you are exactly why He came.
A moment to respond: This week, write the words Hope, Peace and Love on a card. Under each, write the verse from this devotional that goes with it (Romans 15:13, John 14:27, 1 John 4:9–10) and put the card where you will see it every day. If this season feels dark for you, tell Jesus honestly and ask Him to be your light. And if you have never sought Him, start today; He has promised to be found.
Let's pray: Lord Jesus, You are the Light that darkness cannot overcome. Thank You for coming at Christmas, and for coming to stay. Fill us with Your hope, Your peace and Your love—gifts nothing can undo. Shine through us into someone’s darkest night this season. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would seek Jesus this Christmas and find in Him the hope, peace and love that last all year long.
