Lyrics
It’s In His Hands (Extended)
Read together: John 6:43–45; 1 Corinthians 3:5–9; 2 Corinthians 4:5–7; Romans 10:13–15; Isaiah 55:6–7
If you have ever prayed for someone to come to Jesus, you know how helpless it can feel. You have pleaded, explained, invited, and waited. Yet nothing seems to change. This song opens with that honest admission: All my begging, all I can plea, cannot make blinded eyes to see. Only Jesus opens hearts to be free.
That is not a discouraging truth. It is a freeing one.
Read John 6:43–45. Jesus said, "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him." Salvation is not the result of our persuasive skills. It is the work of God. That takes an impossible weight off our shoulders. We are not responsible to save anyone. We are responsible to be faithful.
The second verse makes the same point from another angle. Though we may think what we have done has led some wandering soul to His Son, all the glory goes to only One. Read 1 Corinthians 3:5–9. The Corinthian church was dividing over which preacher they followed. Paul answered, "I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow." Our work matters, but God alone gives life.
So should we just sit back and wait? The third verse says no. We are the tools God chose, weak and foolish… He will give the increase if we will just go! Read 2 Corinthians 4:5–7. Paul says we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord. The God who said "Let light shine out of darkness" has shone in our hearts. "But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us." God delights in using ordinary, cracked vessels to carry His message.
Read Romans 10:13–15. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. "But how can they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching?" God's sovereignty does not cancel our mission. It fuels it. We go because God is the One who saves, which means our weak words are never wasted.
The fourth verse moves from others to the singer's own testimony. It was the Spirit stirring in my heart, showing me my sin; He gave me a new start. Every believer can say this. No one came to Jesus on their own. And those who are in His hands are held securely. Held secure where nothing can pluck me out—praise God, I'm in His hands!
Then comes the bridge, spoken directly to the listener. My friend, this may be your final hour. Come now while He calls. Read Isaiah 55:6–7. "Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way… let him return to the Lord, and He will have compassion on him." If you sense God stirring your heart right now, do not ignore it. That stirring is His hand reaching for you.
A moment to respond: Write down the name of someone you have been praying for. Pray Romans 10:13–15 over them. Then ask God for one way to "plant" or "water" this week—an invitation, a conversation, a kind act—and leave the results in His hands.
Let's pray: Lord, we confess that we cannot open blind eyes or soften hard hearts. Only You can. Thank You for drawing us to Yourself and holding us securely. Use us, weak as we are, to carry Your good news. Give the increase where we plant and water. And for anyone who feels You stirring their heart today, help them come to Jesus while You are near. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would rest in this truth: salvation is in God's hands—and so are you, if you belong to Jesus.
