Lyrics
Walking through these doors, do you know why you came
Walking into this place, do you believe in the power of His name?
Have you made your way here—to just settle into your place,
Or have you come—simply longing to find grace?
Some gathered here—coming from miles around,
Some don’t know—they’re already standing on holy ground!
[PRE-CHORUS]
Ohhhh—are you ready—to leave the cares that brought you here
Ohhhh—are you ready—for Him to draw near?
Come now—lay heavy burdens down
Come find mercy—on this holy, holy ground!
[CHORUS]
For!
We!
Are!
Now!!
In the presence of Jehovah
From Him—He gives every blessing and gift from above
Be covered by His gracious hand
Come into His presence and just stand
For He alone is worthy, faithful and just
We gathered here cause You said—You will be among us
[VERSE 2]
Have you come with a weary heart?
Have you grown tired—just playing a part?
Have you come with hidden pain?
Have you nothing to lose and everything to gain?
Ohhhh—come call on His name—
Jesus’ll take your guilt and shame
Don’t hide in your broken place
Come find His strength and grace
Bring every need and prayer
Place it all in His hands—made of tender loving care
[PRE-CHORUS 2]
For the God who made me and you
Still makes all things—brand new
He’ll do it all right now
Ohhh—you’re in His holy presence
Come now—and humbly bow
[CHORUS]
For!
We!
Are!
Now!!
In the presence of Jehovah
From Him—He gives every blessing and gift from above
Be covered by His gracious hand
Come into His presence and just stand
For He alone is worthy, faithful and just
We gathered here cause You said—You will be among us
[BRIDGE — BUILD]
Listen!! This is more than just a building
These are more than just songs we sing
We have gathered here in the presence
Of the one and only mighty King
Let the troubled heart grow quiet
Let the wounded heart draw near
Let the searching soul find mercy
Fall into the arms of Jesus—for He is surely here
Ohhh—we bring our praise
And we bring our pain
We lift our hands and hearts
Ohhh—right now—we bless Your holy name!
[OUTRO]
And we are standing in the presence of Jehovah—on holy ground
Ohhh—we are standing—in the presence of Jehovah—on holy ground
We’ve gathered here—from all around
And You have joined us here—on this holy, holy ground.
In The Presence Of Jehovah
Read together: Exodus 3:1–15; Psalm 100; Matthew 18:19–20; Hebrews 10:23–25; 1 Corinthians 14:24–25
Why did you walk through the church doors last Sunday? Some come out of habit. Some come because someone expects them to. Some come carrying a heavy burden and hoping, quietly, that something might change. This song asks those questions directly: Have you made your way here just to settle into your place, or have you come simply longing to find grace?
It is a song for the beginning of a worship service, and it carries a startling reminder: Some don't know they're already standing on holy ground.
Read Exodus 3:1–15. Moses was tending sheep when he saw a bush burning without being consumed. As he came closer, God called to him: "Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground." The ground was ordinary dirt until God showed up. What made it holy was His presence.
Then Moses asked God's name, and God answered, "I AM WHO I AM." He told Moses to say that the LORD—the covenant name often rendered "Jehovah" in older English—had sent him. "This is My name forever." The name speaks of a God who is self-existent, eternal, faithful to His promises, and present with His people. To be "in the presence of Jehovah" is to be before the God who keeps His word.
The chorus says, We gathered here 'cause You said You will be among us. Read Matthew 18:19–20. Jesus said, "Where two or three gather in My name, there am I with them." That promise was given in the context of the church seeking His will together, and it reminds us that Jesus is uniquely present when His people gather in His name. A church service is not a performance with God as an audience. It is a meeting with the living Lord.
The second verse turns to the person sitting in the pew. Have you come with a weary heart? Have you grown tired just playing a part? Have you come with hidden pain? Many people sit in church week after week wearing a mask. The song invites you to take it off. Don't hide in your broken place. Come find His strength and grace. Jesus will take your guilt and shame. The God who made you still makes all things new.
The bridge declares: This is more than just a building. These are more than just songs we sing. Read 1 Corinthians 14:24–25. Paul imagines an unbeliever entering a gathering where God's word is being spoken clearly; the secrets of his heart are laid bare, and he falls down and worships God, exclaiming, "God is really among you!" That is what worship can be.
Read Psalm 100. "Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise." And Hebrews 10:23–25 urges believers not to neglect meeting together, but to encourage one another. Gathering with God's people is not optional decoration for the Christian life. It is one of the ways God strengthens us.
If you have stopped going to church, or you go but feel nothing, consider this an invitation. Come expecting God. Bring your praise, and bring your pain. He is there.
A moment to respond: Before your next worship gathering, take five minutes to prepare your heart. Read Psalm 100. Name one burden you will lay down and one reason you will give thanks. When you walk through the doors, remind yourself: "This is holy ground, because He is here."
Let's pray: LORD, the great I AM, You are faithful and present with Your people. Forgive us for coming to worship out of habit and leaving unchanged. Meet us when we gather. Quiet the troubled heart, draw the wounded near, and let the searching soul find mercy. We bring our praise and our pain, and we bless Your holy name. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that the next time you gather with God's people, you would realize you are standing on holy ground—in the presence of the Lord who keeps His promises.
