Lyrics
Help Me Lord
Have you ever reached the point where your prayers became shorter because you were simply too tired to explain? Maybe all you could say was, “Lord, help me.” Not a polished prayer. Not a brave one. Just the truth.
There is a line in Psalm 40 that meets people in that place: “I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry” (Psalm 40:1, KJV). The psalmist describes being lifted from a horrible pit and miry clay, with his feet set upon a rock.
Can you picture trying to walk through deep mud? Every step feels heavier. The harder you struggle, the more exhausted you become. Some seasons of life feel exactly like that. We try our own solutions, wear ourselves out, and wonder why we waited so long to ask God for help.
But notice what Psalm 40 does not say. It doesn't promise that every difficulty disappears the instant we pray. The psalmist waited. Later in the same psalm he still faced troubles and cried for God to make haste to help him (Psalm 40:12–17). Faith did not make him immune to struggle. It gave him Someone to call upon in the middle of it.
Does that sound familiar? Perhaps you've prayed about the same burden for months. Maybe you are discouraged because you don't see progress. Waiting on the Lord is not doing nothing. It is bringing Him our need while continuing to take the next faithful step He has placed before us.
If you're facing a medical concern, seek appropriate care. If you are overwhelmed by debt, ask for wise practical help. If your mind feels clouded by despair, reach out to someone trustworthy instead of bearing it alone. Prayer is not a substitute for receiving the help God may provide through other people.
Read Psalm 40 today. Don't rush through the opening verses. Notice the movement from crying to waiting, from being lifted to giving thanks, and then back to asking for help. That's often how real faith sounds. It is not a straight line from trouble to a permanently easy life.
Would you be willing to pray the words you actually have, even if they're only three? “Help me, Lord.” Then ask Him to show you one wise, obedient step for today. You do not have to see the entire road to take that step.
Let's pray. Lord, for the person who feels stuck in deep mud, hear their cry. Give strength for today, wisdom for the next step, and patient trust when answers seem delayed. Place caring people beside them. Set their feet upon the solid hope found in Jesus Christ. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you know you are not praying into an empty sky. We will be praying for you.
