Lyrics
He Came To Change Your Situation
Have you ever prayed for God to change something around you, only to discover that the hardest thing to change was happening inside you? Maybe you asked for a different job, a repaired relationship, a little breathing room financially, or simply one peaceful night. You wanted relief. Who wouldn't?
But consider the man Jesus met beside the pool at Bethesda. John 5 tells us he had been disabled for thirty-eight years. Jesus asked him a question that sounds almost startling: “Wilt thou be made whole?” (John 5:6, KJV). The man began explaining why he could not reach the water. His explanation made sense. He had lived with that limitation for years. Yet Jesus was not asking him to explain the obstacle one more time. He was about to reveal His authority over it.
Does that sound familiar? We can become so accustomed to describing our circumstances that we no longer imagine anything different. We replay what someone did to us, rehearse what went wrong, and tell ourselves why nothing can change. Sometimes those hardships are real and ongoing. Jesus never asks us to pretend otherwise.
Still, our deepest predicament is greater than a difficult season. Scripture says that apart from Christ we are spiritually dead in our trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:1–5). We do not simply need better conditions; we need new life. That's why Jesus came. His death and resurrection accomplish what advice, determination, and positive thinking cannot: reconciliation with God.
Here's some help for today. Read John 5:1–9, then Ephesians 2:1–10. Ask yourself two different questions: What circumstances am I asking God to change? and What in my heart might He be calling me to surrender? You may need to seek wise counsel, make a difficult apology, leave a destructive pattern, or ask someone to help you carry a burden. Taking a faithful step does not mean you have to solve everything today.
Would you be willing to pray without telling Jesus in advance exactly how He must answer? Tell Him what hurts. Ask Him to change what needs changing in your life—including you. He is not merely a visitor to your trouble. He is the Savior who gives life.
Let's pray. Lord Jesus, You know the situation that brought this person here. Give wisdom for what can be done, courage for what must be faced, and patience for what cannot yet be changed. Most of all, bring the new life and forgiveness that only You can give. Teach us to trust Your presence and Your purposes. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you find more than temporary relief—you find the Savior. We will be praying for you.
