Lyrics

[Verse 1] Ohhhh—the years I spent—countin all the wrongs, Thinking the ledger had to be just right. Every failure shouldn’t be a crossed out line— Weighing on me heavy—in my mind Or tryin to hide the worst ones outta sight. Cause when mercy stepped in—mercy never even opened that book— Ohhh—mercy never asked to even look Mercy just said—look now on my face— Then He wrapped me up—with His loving arms of grace. [Pre-Chorus] Ohhh—I thought I’d had to be someone I could never be— Then forgiveness opened my eyes—so I could see [Chorus] Grace doesn’t ask where you’ve been, Grace only asks you—if it can come in. Grace doesn’t wait till your perfect and whole— Grace takes you as you are—just to save your soul. Where sin ran deep—grace ran deeper still, Down every road and over every hill. I couldn’t earn it then— I can’t repay it—no matter how or when— I only know I once was lost, But grace somehow found me—all the way from an old rugged cross [Verse 2] There’s a chair at the table—set just for you and me There’s a light in the window for a weary traveler to see There’s a Father watching down the road along our way Waitin for His child who wants to come home today You can rehearse every reason you’re unworthy, You can say He’d never save anyone like me— But the blood of Jesus tells a different story to those who will believe And grace has never yet been any easier to receive. [Pre-Chorus] There’s no stairway to Heaven for you to find— Jesus since before all time began—has had you on His mind [Chorus] Grace doesn’t ask where you’ve been, Grace only asks you—if it can come in. Grace doesn’t wait till your perfect and whole— Grace takes you as you are—just to save your soul. Where sin ran deep—grace ran deeper still, Down every road and over every hill. I couldn’t earn it then— I can’t repay it—no matter how or when— I only know I once was lost, But grace somehow found me—all the way from an old rugged cross [Bridge — begins quiet] Grace for the guilty. Grace for the proud. Grace for the one—who will call His name out loud. Grace for the wanderer—who lost their way Grace for the weak—who stayed longer than they meant to stay No price in my hand. No good I could bring. No debt left to pay— Jesus paid everything. [Chorus] Grace doesn’t ask where you’ve been, Grace only asks you—if it can come in. Grace doesn’t wait till your perfect and whole— Grace takes you as you are—just to save your soul. Where sin ran deep—grace ran deeper still, Down every road and over every hill. I couldn’t earn it then— I can’t repay it—no matter how or when— I only know I once was lost, But grace somehow found me—all the way from an old rugged cross [Outro — harmony voices entering one at a time] Grace was enough… Grace is enough… Grace will always be enough… [Final line — nearly a cappella] When I had blinded eyes—oh I could not see— Grace offered Jesus—just for me.

Grace Ran Deeper

Have you ever kept a private record of everything you've done wrong? You may not have written it down, but you can recite the entries: the person you hurt, the promise you broke, the years you wasted, the decision you would give anything to undo.

Some people hide that record behind a smile. Others try to balance it by doing enough good things. But what happens when you realize the debt is more than you could ever repay?

Jesus told a story about a son who demanded his inheritance, left home, and squandered it. When he finally came to himself, he prepared a speech. He would confess his sin and ask to return as a hired servant. But Luke 15:20 says that while he was still a great way off, his father saw him, had compassion, ran, embraced him, and kissed him.

Can you imagine the son rehearsing every failure while the father was already running toward him?

Read Luke 15:11–24. The father's welcome did not make the son's rebellion harmless. The son truly had sinned, and he confessed it. Yet restoration came from the father's compassion, not from the son's ability to earn a place at the table.

Perhaps you believe Jesus can forgive other people, but your own history seems too stained. Listen to Romans 5:8: God demonstrated His love for us in that Christ died for us while we were still sinners. And Ephesians 2:8–9 makes clear that salvation is by grace through faith, not a reward for our works.

Grace is not permission to keep running from God. It is the reason you can stop running and come home. Forgiveness does not always erase earthly consequences or instantly rebuild broken trust, but the cross is sufficient to reconcile a repentant sinner to God.

Would you be willing to stop arguing your case before the Lord today? Tell Him the truth about your sin. Ask Jesus to save you if you've never trusted Him. If you belong to Him but have wandered, confess what you've hidden and take the next honest step toward obedience. If you have harmed someone, ask God for courage to pursue appropriate restitution and reconciliation.

Let's pray. Merciful Father, You know every page of our story. We cannot erase our sin, and we cannot purchase Your forgiveness. Thank You that Jesus bore sin at the cross and rose again. Give us honest repentance, faith to receive Your grace, and strength to walk in a new way. Amen.

At UnrelentingJesus, our desire is not to minimize your past but to point you to a Savior greater than it. We will be praying for you as you take that step toward Him.
