Lyrics

[Verse 1] Ohhhh—-are you in a fight—you’re fightin on your own? Are you in a battle—as an Army of one? Are you overwhelmed and overcome? Are you praying your trouble in life—could just be over and done? [Verse 2] Are you right now—standin in the middle of a fire? Are you feeling flames all around you—growin higher and higher? Are you at that place—you just can’t get no relief? Are you right now—challenging your every belief? [Chorus] Well—If you’re in a fight—you know Jesus—He will fight for you. If you’re in a battle—you know Jesus—He’s the only One that can bring you through. And if you’re standin in the fire—you know Jesus—He’s the one who is gonna keep the flames from getting any higher. And if you’re startin to wonder what you can still believe— Then just sit back—and see what Jesus in you—will achieve. [Verse 3] Cause He—Fights that fight—you will never win He fought and defeated death—and paid the price for sin Jesus wins battles—we didn’t even know we were in— And Jesus comes out victorious—ohhhh—again and again! [Bridge] In you’re standin in a fire—but you ain’t burnin up—look around—Jesus is right there—standin in the flame too! And when you can’t even smell the smoke— Well—-that’s cause Jesus covered you! And if you’re lookin for the chains that used to bind you—well, look no more—that’s the chains—He’s already broke. And if you’re startin not to believe— Just tell the Lord—and that old liar Satan—well—he’s gonna have to leave! [Tag] So in this life—we’re gonna be in a fight And in this life sometimes—we’re gonna feel all alone. But when you know—to Jesus—you are His greatest delight And He fought and died in the greatest battle on a cross all alone—ohhh He won a battle we could have never won. And just in case I need to remind you—Jesus is still on His throne—and He’s gonna pull you through. Ohhh—just trust in Him—and strength and mercy you will receive. Oh just reach out to Jesus—and believe! Jesus—He is Mighty to Save you and me—Ohhhh—of all the Honor and Glory——He is Worthy!! Ohhh—Jesus is Worthy!

You Know Jesus

Read together: Deuteronomy 20:1–4; Daniel 3:24–27; Psalm 147:10–11; 1 John 4:4

Are you in a fight you're fighting on your own? This song opens with a string of questions for anyone who feels like an army of one. Are you overwhelmed and overcome? Are you praying your trouble in life could just be over and done?… Are you standing in the middle of a fire?… Are you right now challenging your every belief?

If any of those questions describe you today, this song has a simple answer: You know Jesus.

Read Deuteronomy 20:1–4. Before Israel went into battle, the priest was to stand before the army and say, "Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not be alarmed or terrified because of them. For the Lord your God is the One who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory." The battle was real. The enemy was strong. But God's people were not fighting alone.

The chorus applies that to everyday battles: If you're in a fight—you know Jesus—He will fight for you. If you're in a battle—you know Jesus—He's the only One that can bring you through.

The third verse names the greatest battle of all: He fights that fight you will never win. He fought and defeated death and paid the price for sin. And then a line worth remembering: Jesus wins battles we didn't even know we were in. How many times has God protected us from dangers we never saw?

The bridge gives one of the most vivid images in the song: If you're standing in a fire, but you ain't burning up—look around—Jesus is right there standing in the flame too! And when you can't even smell the smoke—well, that's 'cause Jesus covered you! Read Daniel 3:24–27. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the furnace, the officials gathered around and saw that "the fire had not harmed their bodies, not a hair of their heads was singed, their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them." God did not just get them through the fire. He brought them out without even the smell of smoke.

We should be careful here. God does not always rescue His people from suffering in visible ways. But He is always with them in it, and He can bring them through in ways that leave His fingerprints all over the story.

The bridge also speaks to doubt: If you're starting not to believe, just tell the Lord—and that old liar Satan, he's gonna have to leave! Honest doubt brought to God is not unbelief. It is faith reaching for help. Read 1 John 4:4. "You, little children, are from God and have overcome them, because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world."

The tag has a tender line: When you know, to Jesus you are His greatest delight. Read Psalm 147:10–11. "His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor His delight in the legs of a man; the Lord delights in those who fear Him, who hope in His loving devotion." God does not delight in our strength. He delights in us when we hope in Him.

If you are fighting alone, stop. You know Jesus—or you can. He is mighty to save.

A moment to respond: Name the battle you are in right now. Read Deuteronomy 20:3–4 and put your name in it. Then think back and write down one "battle you didn't even know you were in" that God brought you through. Thank Him for fighting for you.

Let's pray: Lord Jesus, You fight the battles we can never win. You defeated death and paid the price for sin. When we are in the fire, stand with us there. When we doubt, help us bring our doubts to You. Thank You that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. We trust You. You are mighty to save, and You are worthy. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would stop fighting alone—because you know Jesus, and He fights for you.
