Lyrics

[Verse 1] With the weight of this world Sitting heavy on me— And when the noise of my doubt— Screams—You have to figure this out. When any hope of seeing clear— Vanishes under the weight of my fear— I look to You Lord—for strength from You to rise And when I call out Your Name— You are standing right here—right before my eyes! [Verse 2] You step in— and calm the waters and wind— When You have spoken— Healing comes—to the broken. You lift Your eyes to Glory— And the skies rain with Your mercy— But never has there been more won or been a greater loss— Than when for me—You stepped out of Heaven—and laid down—on an old rugged cross. [Chorus] You are here, when the waves are breaking— You are near—when I am in fear—and there’s no courage in the making— And when my ears and soul are filled with a trembling heart— You come near—no matter how far—we are apart— And fill me with peace and show me grace— Ohhh—so much grace—to finish the race! [Verse 3] Ohhh—when my nights are long And answers to prayers—run dry When in my heart—I can’t find a song— And every question I ask—starts with, “Why?” I can know—in the silence, You are still Lord— Every prayer—I ever prayed—is in Heaven—stored— You know every question that runs through my mind—and how I need to know, WHY! But truly the only answer to—“Why” I should gain—is—“Why”—a spotless lamb would for me—come and die? [Bridge] Ohhhh Lord—You breathe new life—into the ashes of lost hope in my heart— You resurrect songs—I thought I would no longer sing—or have a part— And—You are here, when the waves are breaking— You are near—when I am in fear—and all the times—there’s no courage in the making— [Verse 3] So right now—in this Holy place Hearts are gathered—on every face—a prayer— Lord—we cast every burden on Calvary—and into Your care— Ohhhh—we lay them down—in exchange for victory— And to the risen King of kings—our hands we raise— Giving Jesus all the glory, honor—and praise. [Tag] Oh Lord—You are here, when the waves are breaking— You are near—when I am in fear—and there’s no courage in the making— And when my ears and soul are filled with a trembling heart— You come near—no matter how far—we are apart— So fill me with peace and show me grace— Ohhh—so much grace—to finish the race!

You Are Here

Read together: Matthew 1:22–23; John 1:14; Isaiah 61:1–3; Revelation 8:3–4

When the weight of the world sits heavy on you and the noise of doubt screams, You have to figure this out—where do you turn? This song describes that moment and then a turning point: I look to You, Lord, for strength to rise, and when I call out Your name, You are standing right here, right before my eyes!

The title says it simply: You are here. That is one of the most comforting truths in Scripture.

Read Matthew 1:22–23. When the angel told Joseph about Mary's child, Matthew notes that it fulfilled the prophecy: "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel"—which means "God with us." The very name given to Jesus at His birth announces that God has come near.

Read John 1:14. "The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory." The second verse of the song captures this: Never has there been more won or been a greater loss than when for me You stepped out of heaven and laid down on an old rugged cross. God did not stay distant. He stepped out of heaven into our world, all the way to the cross.

The second verse also remembers what Jesus did on earth: You step in and calm the waters and wind. When You have spoken, healing comes to the broken. The same Jesus who was present then is present now with those who call on Him.

The third verse is deeply honest. When my nights are long and answers to prayers run dry, when in my heart I can't find a song, and every question I ask starts with "Why?" Many believers know that kind of night. The song does not dismiss those questions. It reminds us that in the silence, You are still Lord and that every prayer I ever prayed is in heaven stored. Read Revelation 8:3–4. John saw the prayers of the saints rising like incense before God's throne. Not one prayer is lost.

Then the song does something wise with the question "Why?" Truly the only answer to "Why" I should gain is—why a spotless Lamb would for me come and die. We may not get answers to all our questions in this life. But the greatest "why" has already been answered at the cross: God loves us. And if He loved us enough to die for us, we can trust Him with the questions He has not yet answered.

The bridge celebrates resurrection in the heart: You breathe new life into the ashes of lost hope in my heart. You resurrect songs I thought I would no longer sing. Read Isaiah 61:1–3. The Messiah was anointed "to bind up the brokenhearted… to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair." Jesus read from this passage when He began His ministry. He still turns ashes into beauty.

The bridge ends in corporate worship—hearts gathered, on every face a prayer—casting every burden on Calvary and lifting hands to the risen King.

If you feel alone today, remember His name: Immanuel. God with us. And if you have never called on Him, He is near enough to hear you right now.

A moment to respond: Read Matthew 1:23 and Isaiah 61:3. Name one area of your life that feels like ashes. Ask Jesus to bring beauty there. Then spend a moment in silence, simply acknowledging, "Lord, You are here."

Let's pray: Lord Jesus, You are Immanuel—God with us. When the weight of the world presses down and doubt screams, You are here. When nights are long and answers run dry, You are still Lord. Thank You that the greatest "why" is answered at the cross. Breathe new life into the ashes of our hope, and give us songs to sing again. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that in every storm and every silence you would know this one truth: Jesus is here.
