Lyrics

[Verse 1] Before my door is opened, Before the phone can ring, Before anyone hears me You lift my heart to sing— You fill a quiet place within me You want to show me—what my eyes can’t see, And I bow down to worship Thee— When it’s just You and me. [Verse 2] I don’t need an altar, I don’t need a sacred place You meet me in the day or night You never hide your face. You’re not looking for a performance, Or the finest melody— You’re looking for my heart surrendered When it’s just You and me. [Pre-Chorus] Search me, Lord, and know me, Mold me into what I need to be If worship starts with surrender, I lay it all down—before Thee [Chorus] Ohhhh Lord—when it’s just You and me— No crowd, no stage, nobody else to see— I will bless You in the silence, I will praise You on my knees. Not for what Your hand can give me, But because You’re worthy eternally. Here’s my heart—here’s my life— You are my perfect sacrifice— Ohhhh —the only One—Who died for me. [Verse 3] Like the woman with the oil Who broke her precious jar, She wasn’t counting what it cost her— She knew how worthy You are. So I break my alabaster, Let nothing stay that I own For the Lamb who died for me Rules now on His heavenly throne! [Pre-Chorus] Create in me a clean heart, Make Your spirit in me whole and not just a part I don’t want just the sound of worship I surrender to You—my whole heart! [Chorus] Ohhhh Lord—when it’s just You and me— No crowd, no stage, nobody else to see— I will bless You in the silence, I will praise You on my knees. Not for what Your hand can give me, But because You’re worthy eternally. Here’s my heart—here’s my life— You are my perfect sacrifice— Ohhhh —the only One—Who died for me. [Bridge] If I never sing before another soul— You are worthy. If nobody ever hears the songs I write or sing You are worthy. In the morning, or at midnight, On the mountain, or in the valley— You are worthy! You are worthy! When my heart is overflowing— You are worthy! When my tears are all I can bring— You are worthy! When I have no words to offer, I can still bow before You— Jesus, You are worthy! You are worthy! [Tag / Outro] In spirit and in truth— I worship You. When nobody hears, When nobody sees, Jesus, let me still be found Worshiping at Your feet. When it’s just You… And me.

When It's Just You and Me

Read together: Matthew 6:5–6; Mark 14:3–9; Psalm 5:1–3; John 4:23–24

Before the door opens. Before the phone rings. Before anyone else hears your voice. This song describes the quiet moments at the beginning of the day when it is just you and God. You lift my heart to sing. You fill a quiet place within me… And I bow down to worship Thee—when it's just You and me.

Much of our worship happens in public—in church, with music, among other believers. That is good and right. But there is a kind of worship that only happens in private, and it reveals what is really in our hearts.

Read Matthew 6:5–6. Jesus warned against praying to be seen by others. "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." Private worship is not lesser worship. In some ways it is the truest, because there is no audience but God.

The second verse says it well: I don't need an altar, I don't need a sacred place. You meet me in the day or night… You're not looking for a performance or the finest melody. You're looking for my heart surrendered. Read John 4:23–24. Jesus told the Samaritan woman that true worshipers will worship the Father "in spirit and in truth"—not tied to a mountain or a temple, but from the heart, according to who God really is.

Read Psalm 5:1–3. David prayed, "Give ear to my words, O Lord… In the morning, O Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait in expectation." There is something powerful about beginning the day with God before the world crowds in.

The chorus says, I will bless You in the silence… not for what Your hand can give me, but because You're worthy eternally. And the third verse turns to one of the most beautiful acts of worship in the Gospels. Read Mark 14:3–9. At a dinner in Bethany, a woman broke an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume and poured it on Jesus' head. Some criticized her for wasting it. But Jesus said, "Leave her alone… She has done a beautiful thing to Me." The song draws the lesson: She wasn't counting what it cost her—she knew how worthy You are. So I break my alabaster—let nothing stay that I own.

That is what surrendered worship looks like. Not a performance, not a calculation, but giving our best to the One who gave His all.

The bridge holds a striking declaration: If I never sing before another soul—You are worthy. If nobody ever hears the songs I write or sing—You are worthy! Whether worship is seen or unseen, applauded or ignored, God is still worthy.

If you have only worshiped in public, try meeting God in private. And if you have never worshiped Him at all, begin by coming to Jesus, the Lamb who died for you.

A moment to respond: Tomorrow morning, before you look at your phone or speak to anyone, spend ten minutes alone with God. Read Psalm 5:1–3. Then tell Him one thing you love about Him—not something He has done, but who He is. Ask Him what "alabaster jar" you could break for Him this week.

Let's pray: Lord Jesus, when it's just You and me, I want to worship You. You are not looking for a performance, but for a surrendered heart. Like the woman with the alabaster jar, help me give You my best without counting the cost. Whether anyone sees or hears, You are worthy. Let me always be found worshiping at Your feet. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would discover the quiet joy of worshiping Jesus when it's just the two of you—because He is worthy, seen or unseen.
