Lyrics

[Verse 1] Each day in this life— Each morning when we rise We all begin to write A story we hope—turns out right We consider ourselves and what happened yesterday We think about all that got in our way Hoping to end tomorrow With a little less guilt and sorrow. [Verse 2] But as we’ve all come to see That isn’t at all—how it turns out to be No matter how hard we try We find in our way—the question of, “Why?” It’s a voice telling us how it was supposed to be And all is lost—because of you and me. Then in the middle of despair Something or someone begins to change the air. [Chorus] Jesus, Jesus—He always steps in— When the ground I’m standing on— Gets weak and thin He steps up and takes the floor He shouts, No need to worry anymore For all your yesterdays have gone their way— And I’m right here for your every—today. What has been will never come around again What could have been—that’s just the Devil stepping in What’s gonna be—that’s all up to me Cause when I died for you at Calvary I forgot about your yesterday— So when you follow me—tomorrow is always a better day. [Verse 3] Air that was heavy and filled with guilt and pain Began to lighten and feel clean—then it circled around again And in the middle of it all— There is Jesus!! Ohhhh—He heard my call!! He said, Listen child to what I have to say— The old Devil wants to keep you in yesterday And because of me— that’s where he’s always gonna be So it’s never me bringing up guilt or shame Not when you’ve been saved in my name— Cause when I died for you at Calvary I forgot about your yesterday— So when you follow me—that’s always gonna be—a better way! [Tag] What could have been—that’s just the Devil stepping in What’s gonna be—that’s all up to me Cause when I died for you at Calvary I forgot about your yesterday— So when you follow me—tomorrow is always a better day.

What’s Gonna Be

Read together: Hebrews 8:10–12; Micah 7:18–19; Psalm 118:24; Matthew 6:34

Every morning, we start writing another page of our story. We think about yesterday—what went wrong, what got in our way—and we hope tomorrow ends with a little less guilt and sorrow. But as this song honestly admits, it doesn't always turn out that way. No matter how hard we try, we find in our way the question of "Why?" And a voice starts telling us how things were supposed to be, and that all is lost because of you and me.

Many people live under that voice. Yesterday's failures replay in their minds. Regret, guilt, and "what could have been" hang in the air like heavy smoke.

Then the song says, in the middle of despair, something—or someone—begins to change the air. Jesus steps in. He steps up and takes the floor. He shouts, "No need to worry anymore. All your yesterdays have gone their way, and I'm right here for your every today."

The chorus breaks time into three parts: What has been will never come around again. What could have been—that's just the devil stepping in. What's gonna be—that's all up to Me.

That is a wise framework. What has been is past; it cannot be changed. What could have been is a trap—endless regret that the enemy uses to keep us stuck. And what's going to be is in Jesus' hands.

Then Jesus says something astonishing in the song: When I died for you at Calvary, I forgot about your yesterday. Read Hebrews 8:10–12. God promises in the new covenant, "I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more." God does not literally lose information. But He chooses not to hold our sins against us. When He forgives, He does not bring it up again.

Read Micah 7:18–19. "Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity… He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in loving devotion… You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea." Some have said that God casts our sins into the deepest sea and then puts up a sign: "No fishing." The song says it plainly in the third verse: It's never Me bringing up guilt or shame—not when you've been saved in My name.

That is a vital truth for anyone who struggles with guilt after being forgiven. If a voice keeps dragging up confessed sin, it is not the voice of Jesus. Conviction from the Holy Spirit leads us toward repentance and freedom. Condemnation from the enemy leads us toward despair.

Read Psalm 118:24. "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." And Matthew 6:34: "Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself." Jesus meets us in today. He is not stuck in our yesterday, and He holds our tomorrow.

The tag sums it up: When you follow Me, tomorrow is always a better day. That doesn't mean every tomorrow will be easy. It means that with Jesus, our future is always moving toward His good purpose and, ultimately, toward glory.

A moment to respond: Write three headings: "What has been," "What could have been," and "What's gonna be." Under the first, write a past failure and next to it, "Forgiven." Under the second, write a regret and cross it out. Under the third, write, "In Jesus' hands." Read Micah 7:19 and thank Him.

Let's pray: Lord Jesus, thank You for stepping into our despair and changing the air. Thank You for forgiving our sins and remembering them no more. Silence the voice that keeps dragging us back to yesterday. Help us live in today with You and trust You with tomorrow. When we follow You, tomorrow is always a better day. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would stop living in yesterday's guilt—and walk with Jesus into the better days He has prepared.
