Lyrics

**Verse 1:** If I could tell you what I’d want you to know— I’d say over and over again— I thought if I was here and you were there— Each day would be filled with pain. But I’ve already come to know— If back to you I could come— I don’t think I would go. Oh, I love you more than anything I knew— But Jesus loves us more— even me and you! And where I am, there is no night— But ohhhh—the perfect light— If you could feel no more pain— You’d come and never leave again! And, I’d want you to know— I’ve never been alone— Since Jesus led me to the throne! **Chorus:** Ohhh, my friend—do you love the Lord above? He’s the One made of mercy and love— In Jesus, faith always ends in sight— All written in His word is right— Heaven and glory are real and true, I am waiting now— I am waiting for you! **Verse 2:** Trust is hard—if your heart’s torn in two, And never more than surrendering—those He gave to you. But our God is faithful— through the pain— His love and care endures forever— And over and over— You can call His name again! **Chorus:** Ohhh, my friend—do you love the Lord above? He’s the One made of mercy and love— In Jesus, faith always ends in sight— All written in His word is right— Heaven and glory are real and true, I am waiting now— I am waiting for you! **Bridge:** Life is just a vapor— Slipping from sight, and hand— It comes in with the tide— It’s gone through the sand. Wear this world lightly— Hug those you love and pray nightly Trust in Jesus and obey— Jesus will bring you home one day!! **Verse 3 (final verse):** On earth—the wonder of all wonders is why He would die for you and me— In Heaven—the wonder of all wonders is God incarnate dying on a tree— But all of heaven—and all of earth— The greatest wonder did proclaim— When the Father from the tomb— Called His Son and our Savior by name! It is finished—the victory is won! **Grand Finale (final chorus, building):** This is what I’d want you to know, His arms are open wide, I’ll be waiting just inside the gates, sitting by Jesus side There is no greater love— Than from the Father above Where forever we are held together— By His amazing grace and love!

What I’d Want You To Know

Read together: Isaiah 25:8–9; Psalm 39:4–7; 1 Corinthians 7:29–31; John 11:25–26

This song is written in an imagined voice—someone who has gone to be with the Lord, speaking to the loved ones left behind. If I could tell you what I'd want you to know, I'd say over and over again: I thought if I was here and you were there, each day would be filled with pain. But… if back to you I could come, I don't think I would go.

We should be careful here. Scripture does not teach that those who have died speak to us, and this song does not claim they do. It is a songwriter's way of imagining what a believer in heaven might want their family to understand. And much of what it says is grounded in the hope Scripture gives.

Where I am, there is no night, but oh, the perfect light. If you could feel no more pain, you'd come and never leave again. Read Isaiah 25:8–9. "He will swallow up death forever. The Lord God will wipe away the tears from every face… In that day they will say, 'Surely this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He has saved us.'" For those who die in Christ, pain is over. They are not wishing to return.

I love you more than anything I knew—but Jesus loves us more. That is a tender and true line. The love of a parent, spouse, or friend is a gift. But it is not the greatest love. The greatest love belongs to Jesus, and those who know Him in heaven know that more fully than ever.

The chorus becomes an invitation: Oh, my friend—do you love the Lord above?… Heaven and glory are real and true. I am waiting now—I am waiting for you! For many grieving families, this is the heart of it. The greatest comfort is not just that their loved one is with Jesus, but that they can be too. Read John 11:25–26. Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies." Then He asked Martha, "Do you believe this?" The same question comes to us.

The second verse speaks gently to the grieving. Trust is hard if your heart's torn in two, and never more than surrendering those He gave to you. Letting go of someone we love may be the hardest act of trust we ever make. But our God is faithful through the pain… you can call His name again.

The bridge offers wisdom for the living. Life is just a vapor… Wear this world lightly. Hug those you love and pray nightly. Read Psalm 39:4–7. "Show me, O Lord, my life's end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is… Surely every man walks about like a shadow… And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You." Read 1 Corinthians 7:29–31. Paul says "the present form of this world is passing away." We are to hold earthly things lightly—not carelessly, but with eternity in view.

The final verse calls the resurrection the greatest wonder: the Father calling His Son by name from the tomb. That is why heaven is real. That is why reunion is possible. It is finished—the victory is won!

If you are grieving someone who knew Jesus, take comfort. And if you are not sure you will see them again, Jesus is asking you the question He asked Martha: Do you believe this?

A moment to respond: If you are grieving, write a short letter to the Lord about the person you miss, thanking Him for them and for His promises. Then read John 11:25–26 and answer Jesus' question honestly. Today, hug someone you love and tell them what they mean to you.

Let's pray: Lord Jesus, You have conquered death and opened the way home. Comfort everyone who misses someone who has gone home to You. Thank You that in Your presence there is no more pain or night. Help us wear this world lightly, love one another well, and trust You through grief. Draw every grieving heart to You, so that one day we will be together in Your presence forever. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you would find comfort in the hope of heaven—and be ready to join those who have gone before you into the arms of Jesus.
