Lyrics
Take Jesus To The Pearly Gate
Read together: Luke 13:22–30; 1 John 5:11–13; Revelation 21:21–27; Romans 10:9–10
Most of us plan carefully for the things we know are coming. We make lists before a trip. We gather documents before an appointment. We save for retirement. This song asks a simple question about the one appointment every person will keep: What's it gonna take to get past that pearly gate?
The answer comes back loud and clear: You gotta have JESUS!
The image of pearly gates comes from Revelation 21:21–27. John saw the New Jerusalem, with twelve gates, each made of a single pearl, and a street of pure gold. But he also saw who would enter: "Nothing unclean will ever enter it… but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life." Entrance is not about being good enough. It is about belonging to the Lamb.
Read 1 John 5:11–13. "This is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life." That is the song's whole point in one verse. You gotta have Jesus. And if you have Him, you can know you have eternal life.
Jesus Himself was asked about this. Read Luke 13:22–30. Someone asked, "Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?" Jesus answered, "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able." Then He described a homeowner who gets up and shuts the door, and people outside knocking and saying, "Lord, open the door for us!" But he answers, "I do not know where you come from."
That is sobering, and the song does not soften it. It's a matter of heaven or hell. Remember He's knocked many times before—soon there won't be another time for you to ignore. We share this not to frighten anyone for the sake of it, but because Jesus Himself spoke this way out of love. The door is open now. It will not stay open forever.
The good news is that you do not have to earn your way in. Receive His free gift of salvation and forgiveness of sin, and at the pearly gate you are sure to get in. Read Romans 10:9–10. "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Salvation is not a reward for good behavior. It is a gift received by faith.
The chorus asks a gentle but pointed question: If He came all the way down from heaven, and now He's knocking at your heart's door to receive your pardon from all your sin—why would you wait anymore? Jesus has already done the hard part. He left heaven, lived a perfect life, died for sin, and rose again. All that remains is to open the door.
If you have been putting this decision off, please don't wait. And if you already belong to Jesus, rejoice—your name is written in the Lamb's book. Then think of someone who still needs to hear.
A moment to respond: Read 1 John 5:11–13. Ask yourself honestly: Do I have the Son? If you are unsure, pray Romans 10:9 sincerely today, confessing Jesus as Lord and trusting that God raised Him from the dead. If you are sure, write down the name of one person you will pray for and talk to about Jesus.
Let's pray: Lord Jesus, You came all the way down from heaven to open the door for us. Thank You for Your free gift of salvation. For anyone who has been ignoring Your knock, give them courage to open the door today. Write their names in Your book. For those who already belong to You, make us faithful to tell others while the door is open. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that when you arrive at the pearly gate, you will have the only thing you need—Jesus.
