Lyrics

[Verse 1] Oh Jesus—we have been Yours and in this place— Now for so many years—coming here—seeking Your face! But Lord—we stop now to say— You have been so faithful to us—in this place—and all the way. You have loved us with a love— Only given and found from You above— So all we hope to do— Is continue—to be faithful and true— We seek to worship You—forevermore! And welcome You—and all You send us—coming through our door. [Chorus] Lord—You are so faithful—always guiding us by Your love and grace— You have never failed us in all the years— We have gathered in this place— Through victories and tears Lord— Now continue to grant us all You can afford As we lift our hands—sing of Your Grace— Hear Your word—In repentance falling before you on our face— Lord make of us—bold witnesses to one and all those around— And we will work for You—till the trumpet sound. [Verse 2] Lord—we know that in a place like this— Satan desires that Your will—we will miss. The enemy seeks to divide us—and find us weak— To destroy the unity in You that we seek. Satan wants to destroy the testimony of our church—that has been so sound. Lord will You forever unite us and keep our testimony intact—as You protect us on this holy ground? [Chorus] Lord—You are so faithful—always guiding us by Your love and grace— You have never failed us in all the years— We have gathered in this place— Through victories and tears Lord— Now continue to grant us all You can afford As we lift our hands—sing of Your Grace— Hear Your word—In repentance falling before you on our face— Lord make of us—bold witnesses to one and all those around— And we will work for You—till the trumpet sound. [Tag] Lord—continue Your mercy on us— Help us more and more—to place our trust— In You and You alone— May this place always be known— As a house of worship—full of long suffering and grace— In Your name—and to everyone—who enters this place. Ahhhhhh-mennnnnn!

Lord You’ve Been So Faithful In This Place

Read together: 1 Samuel 7:10–12; Psalm 26:8; Ephesians 4:1–6; John 17:20–23; 1 Peter 5:8–11

Every church that has lasted for years has stories. Revivals and funerals. Baptisms and weddings. Seasons of growth and seasons of loss. People who came through the doors broken and left whole. This song stops in the middle of a church's life to say something simple and profound: Lord, You have been so faithful to us in this place.

Read 1 Samuel 7:10–12. After the Lord gave Israel victory over the Philistines, Samuel set up a stone and named it Ebenezer, saying, "Thus far the Lord has helped us." That stone was a marker of remembrance. It said, "God did this. Don't forget." Many churches need moments like this song—moments to set up an Ebenezer and give thanks for every year of grace.

Read Psalm 26:8. "O Lord, I love the house where You dwell, the place where Your glory resides." There is nothing magical about a building. But there is something precious about a place where God's people have worshiped, prayed, wept, and rejoiced together for years.

The chorus asks God to continue His work: as we lift our hands, sing of Your grace, hear Your word, in repentance fall before You. That is a healthy picture of a church—worship, Scripture, repentance, and then mission: make of us bold witnesses to one and all. A faithful church does not only look inward. It looks outward until the trumpet sound.

The second verse names a danger every church faces. Satan desires that Your will we will miss. The enemy seeks to divide us and find us weak. That is not exaggeration. Read 1 Peter 5:8–11. "Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith." Peter wrote that to churches. One of the enemy's favorite strategies is division—over preferences, personalities, and pride. A church torn apart by conflict loses its witness.

That is why Jesus prayed for unity. Read John 17:20–23. On the night before His death, Jesus prayed for all who would believe through the apostles' message, "that they may all be one… so that the world may believe that You sent Me." Our unity is meant to be evidence of the gospel. When believers love one another across differences, the world sees something it cannot explain.

Read Ephesians 4:1–6. Paul urges believers to walk worthy of their calling, "with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." Notice: we do not create unity. The Spirit gives it. Our job is to maintain it—through humility, patience, and love. The song's tag prays for exactly that: a house of worship full of long-suffering and grace.

If you are part of a church, thank God for His faithfulness there. If you have been hurt by a church, we are sorry. Jesus has not given up on His people, and He may yet bring healing. And if you have never belonged to a church family, consider this an invitation. Find a place where Christ is preached, and let Him be faithful to you there.

A moment to respond: Write down three ways God has been faithful to your church or to you through a church. Share one with your pastor or a fellow member this week. Then pray John 17:21 for your congregation by name, asking God to protect its unity and witness.

Let's pray: Lord Jesus, You have been so faithful to us. Thank You for every year of grace in the places where we gather. Guard us from the enemy's attempts to divide us. Make us humble, patient, and gentle with one another. Keep our testimony strong. Make us bold witnesses, and let every person who enters our doors find mercy and grace in Your name. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that your church would be a place where God's faithfulness is remembered, His people are united, and everyone who walks through the door meets Jesus.
