Lyrics
Jesus Came To The Well For Me
Can you imagine choosing the hottest part of the day to draw water because you didn't want to meet the people who knew your story? Perhaps you've never walked to a village well, but you may know what it feels like to avoid a conversation, enter a room late, or hope nobody asks about the part of your life you'd rather keep hidden.
John 4 tells us about a Samaritan woman who met Jesus at a well. Read John 4:1–30, and then verses 39–42. The encounter crossed boundaries of gender, ethnicity, and reputation that made their conversation surprising to the people around them. Jesus asked her for a drink, then spoke of living water. As their conversation unfolded, He showed that He knew the truth about her life. Yet He did not turn away.
That detail matters. Many of us have quietly believed that being fully known would mean being finally rejected. We imagine that if someone knew our history, our habits, or the thoughts we fight, they would no longer want to sit with us. Jesus knew this woman's circumstances and still offered her the gift of God. He neither pretended sin was unimportant nor treated her as beyond His reach.
Notice also what happened after the conversation. She left her water jar and went into town to tell others about the man she had met. The very community she might have avoided became the place where she spoke of Jesus. Her story did not end at the point of exposure. It became a testimony that directed others toward the Savior.
Maybe you're thirsty in a way no ordinary drink can satisfy. You've tried approval, work, relationships, success, or distraction, but the emptiness keeps returning. Jesus' invitation is not to hide that thirst more successfully. It is to come to Him. The living water He offers points to the life that comes through knowing Him, not to a promise that every earthly difficulty will disappear.
Would you be willing to read John 4 today and ask yourself one honest question: What am I still trying to use to satisfy a need only God can meet? You don't need to answer for anyone else. Speak to Jesus about it. If there is sin to confess, confess it. If there is shame you've been carrying, bring that too. The Lord who spoke truth at the well is also the Lord who gave Himself for sinners at the cross.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that no visitor would conclude their history makes them unreachable. We will be praying that you encounter the truth and mercy of Jesus and discover that His invitation is for you.
Let's pray. Jesus, You know what we conceal and what we long for. Thank You for speaking truth without turning away from needy people. Expose what keeps us from You, forgive our sins, and give us the life only You can give. Help us tell others of Your mercy with humility and joy. Amen.
