Lyrics

**Verse 1** You can tell a lot—by how somebody was raised— Sayin, “Yes Ma’am” and “No Sir” where I came from—always got praised. But where you grew up—had a whole lot to do— With how you turned out—to be—you! And—if you could hear a church bell— Morning, night and noon— Probably not scientific—but some say you got a better chance—at staying outta—hell. And when every neighbor—was a friend—that lived just past an old barn on a gravel road— Those were real friends—back then—that couldn’t be bought—or sold. **Pre-Chorus** And if Mama prayed— and Daddy worked more than he played— And everybody sang along— At church—or when the radio played a favorite song— There’s no way to say on the whole— But if you grew up along this kind of road— There’s a good chance—Jesus can still save your soul. **Chorus** Ohhhh—nothing wrong—with growing up—on a gravel road—with friends all around— And some travel straight roads—while others take the long way round— But I sure think you got a better chance of gettin where you need to go— If you can sing along—cause you know—Jesus loves you—cause the Bible tells you so. **Verse 2** Ohhh—Heaven’s on a road—that always runs straight ahead— But it’s a road you can get lost on— If you’re not going where Jesus has led— So no matter if it’s gravel or a super highway— Stay on the road with Jesus—cause Heaven’s straight ahead— And only Jesus knows the way! **Bridge** Never been a road—that didn’t have potholes somewhere along the way— Sometimes there’s bridges—up and over— Sometimes tunnels take you far under— Storm clouds rollin in— You just missed that turn again— But that’s when Grace and Mercy step in— Gettin you back on a good gravel road— All the way to Heaven—with Jesus— Cause He bought you—and you can’t never be sold! **Bridge** If you grew up in some city— Or off some country road—singing a favorite song— Both have roads that can be dark and long. But what you need to know—no matter what road you’re on— There’s a mansion in the distance—Jesus will be standing just past an old barn—at a really shiny gate— He will welcome you home—if you trust by faith He died for you—ohhhh—God’s only Son! **Tag** I’m on a gravel road to glory And Heaven’s straight ahead This is my story— Of Jesus’s grace—and how He’s led. There may be few—or many miles left to tread— But I’m on a gravel road to glory— And Heaven’s just ahead.

Gravel Road To Glory

Can you remember a road that takes you straight back to childhood? Maybe it was gravel, with dust rising behind the car. Maybe it ran past a church, a neighbor's porch, or a field you knew by heart. You might remember a parent praying, a hymn on the radio, or someone who taught you to say “yes, ma'am” and “no, sir.”

Those memories can be precious. But they can also be complicated. Not everybody had a safe childhood. Not every home was filled with faith. And growing up near a church never made anyone a Christian.

Jesus told His disciples, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6, KJV). Notice that He did not say the way was a particular neighborhood, upbringing, family name, or set of traditions. He said I am the way.

Read John 14:1–6. The disciples were troubled because Jesus was preparing them for His departure. He comforted them with the promise of the Father's house and then directed their trust to Himself.

Have you ever taken a wrong turn and stubbornly kept driving because you didn't want to admit you were lost? Some of us do the same spiritually. We trust that being decent, having Christian relatives, or knowing the words to old hymns will get us home. But salvation isn't inherited like a family recipe.

And perhaps you took a road you regret—one with broken relationships, addictions, or decisions that still trouble you. Your detour is real, but it need not be the end of your story. Luke 15:17–24 shows a lost son returning to his father. The invitation to come home was not based on his ability to pretend he had never left.

Would you be willing to ask yourself a simple question: Am I trusting Jesus, or merely trusting the road I grew up on? If you've never placed your faith in Him, you can turn to Him today. If you already belong to Him, thank Him for those who helped point you toward the truth—and consider whom you could help along the way.

Let's pray. Lord Jesus, thank You for the people and places that shaped our lives, even when the memories are mixed with pain. Keep us from mistaking tradition for salvation. Guide those who feel lost, restore those who have wandered, and help us point others to You, the only way to the Father. Amen.

At UnrelentingJesus, our desire is that whatever road brought you here, you will know where true hope is found. We will be praying for your journey with Jesus.
