Lyrics

[Verse 1 (Lead Female)] I reached for a Bible I hadn’t used in years, Brushed off the cover—through slow-falling tears. Written in the margin—in his own hand, Time rolled back—and I saw Daddy again. [Verse 2 (female lead)] Ink on the pages—was faded and worn, Words for my birthday—the year I was born. Back then—the words were not written— for this valley I’m in— But grace chose tonight—to send Daddy again. [Chorus (Full female trio)] I found my Daddy again tonight, Between the pages—in soft lamplight. His faith still talks on the pages—like an old dear friend, In that Bible—that I haven’t used in years— I found Daddy again. [Verse 3 (Spoken)] Some gifts grow sweeter—as the years roll on, Like Daddy’s words—reminding me I’m not alone. Then there’s the baptism letter inside— Reminded me of a time—our faith—we didn’t hide— And then he wrote— “Walk with the Savior—always cling to His name,” He wrote it for me back then—but it still burns in my heart—with the brightest flame. [Verse 4 (full female sister trio)] Twelve long years—since he went home to rest, Seeing these lines—ohhhh—how I’m blessed. It’s true—Life moves us all along—many already—to a heavenly homeland— But God’s love is on these pages—written to you and me—all held—by His loving hand. [Chorus (Full female trio)] I found my Daddy again tonight, Between the pages—in soft lamplight. His faith still talks on the pages—like an old dear friend, In that Bible—I haven’t used in years— I found Daddy again. [Bridge (Lead with trio “oohs”)] If you still have—those you love— If they haven’t moved on—to their homeland above— The time is richer—than you’ve already had— And when they are gone—you’ll miss them so bad— But if like an orphan you feel— Heaven will be your home—God’s love is real! [Tag (Big female trio ending)] I found my Daddy again tonight, The ink’s grown dim, but the love’s still bright. Through every tear and every page— God speaks through His word—to every age— [Female Lead Solo] And tonight—God did more than use that old Bible—to bring Daddy back home again… God used that old Bible, to bring me back home to Him—for the first time—since I don’t remember when. I can see—my Heavenly Father—again.

Between The Pages

Read together: 2 Timothy 3:14–17; Isaiah 40:6–8; Hebrews 4:12; John 14:15–18; Psalm 68:5–6

Have you ever opened an old Bible and found handwriting in the margins? A date. An underlined verse. A note written years ago by someone you loved. For a moment, time folds in on itself, and you can almost hear their voice again.

This song tells that kind of story. A daughter reaches for a Bible she hasn't used in years, brushes off the cover through tears, and finds her father's handwriting—words written for her birthday, a baptism letter, a simple charge: Walk with the Savior; always cling to His name. Twelve years after he went home, his faith still speaks from those pages.

We do not want to add anything to that story that the song does not tell. But we suspect many people recognize it. Some of us were given a heritage of faith. Others are still praying that the faith we live will outlast us.

Read 2 Timothy 3:14–17. Paul told Timothy to continue in what he had learned, "knowing from whom you learned it," and reminded him that from childhood he had known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to make us wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Timothy's faith came through the Word of God, carried to him by people who loved him. That is what the father in this song did. He did not just leave his daughter a book. He left her the Word, with his witness written alongside it.

Yet the song reaches a turning point that matters even more. Tonight God did more than use that old Bible to bring Daddy back… God used that old Bible to bring me back home to Him. The handwriting stirred her memory, but it was God's own Word that stirred her soul. Read Hebrews 4:12. The Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. Ink fades. Paper wears thin. Isaiah 40:8 reminds us that the grass withers and the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever. That is why a Bible left on a shelf for years can still speak with power the moment it is opened.

Perhaps you have been away from God for a long time. You still own a Bible, but it has been gathering dust. You may feel distant, even orphaned, as the song's bridge says. Jesus made a promise to His disciples on the night before He died: "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you" (John 14:18). Psalm 68:5 calls God a father to the fatherless. If your earthly father is gone—or if you never had the father you needed—your Heavenly Father has not stopped calling you home.

And if those you love are still here, the song offers a gentle word: the time you have with them is precious. Tell them what their faith has meant to you. And consider what you are writing in the margins for those who will come after you.

A moment to respond: Find a Bible today—even one you have not opened in years. Read 2 Timothy 3:14–17. Then write a short note in the margin or on the inside cover for someone you love, pointing them to Jesus. If you have been away from God, read one chapter of the Gospel of John tonight and tell Him you want to come home.

Let's pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for the people who handed Your Word to us and for the faith that still speaks through their lives. Thank You that Your Word does not fade. For anyone who has drifted, use Your Word to bring them home to You tonight. Comfort those who grieve, and make us faithful witnesses for the generations that follow. Amen.

Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that the Word of God would come off the shelf and into your heart—and lead you home to the Father who has been waiting for you.
