Bedside Prayers
Read together: Mark 2:1–12; Psalm 46:1–3; Hebrews 4:14–16
Have you ever sat beside a bed and watched someone you love struggle, while the clock kept moving and every minute seemed to last forever?
Maybe you are waiting for test results. Maybe you are the patient, tired of answering questions and afraid of the answer to the next one. Or perhaps you have reached the moment when words are few, and the only prayer you can manage is, “Jesus, please.”
Does this sound familiar? Then I want you to know that Scripture makes room for people who feel powerless.
Read Mark 2:1–12. Four friends carried a paralyzed man to Jesus. When the crowd blocked their way, they opened the roof and lowered him before the Lord. Imagine the vulnerability of that man, depending on others to carry him into the room. Jesus saw their faith. He first spoke to the man's deepest need—his sin—and then demonstrated His authority by healing him.
This passage does not promise that every person we bring before God will walk out of a hospital healed. It does show us whom we are coming to: Jesus, who has authority to forgive sins and who is not indifferent to human suffering.
Would you be willing to do two things? First, tell Jesus plainly what you are afraid of and what you are asking Him to do. Second, let someone help carry the burden. Ask a trusted friend, pastor, or family member to pray with you. If you are supporting someone who is sick, your presence, practical help, and quiet prayers matter more than finding perfect words.
A moment to respond: Read Psalm 46:1–3. Write down one need you cannot solve on your own. Bring it to the Lord, and consider one person you could ask to walk beside you today.
Let's pray: Heavenly Father, You know every hospital room, every home where someone is suffering, and every loved one waiting for news. We ask for healing according to Your wisdom, skill and compassion for those providing care, and peace for frightened hearts. Above all, lead each person to the forgiveness and hope found in Jesus Christ. Amen.
Our desire at UnrelentingJesus is that you find more than comforting words here. We want you to know where to turn when you do not know what to do next. Jesus hears the prayers you can barely speak.
